Zopiclone is a sleep medicine that already slows down your brain to help you drift off, so it brings drowsiness, a groggy or heavy-headed feeling, and sometimes a bitter taste in your mouth. The concern here is simple: Oregon grape contains berberine, and in animal studies berberine showed mild calming effects of its own. Stacked on top of zopiclone, it could in theory add to the sleepiness.

I want to be honest about the strength of this. The evidence is only lab and animal based, not human studies, so this is more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Still, if you take both, watch for extra grogginess, dizziness, or feeling unsteady the next morning. Please run it by your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Theoretically, Oregon grape might increase serum levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research and preliminary clinical evidence suggest that berberine, a constituent of Oregon grape, moderately inhibits cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4).

Zopiclone is a sleep medicine that your body partly clears using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. The berberine in Oregon grape is thought to slow that enzyme down a bit. If it does, your body may break Zopiclone down more slowly, so more of it lingers in your bloodstream. In plain terms, the sleeping pill could hit harder or last longer than you expect.

That might show up as next-morning grogginess, dizziness, a stronger bitter taste, or feeling unsteady on your feet. Keep in mind this is a theoretical concern based mostly on lab work, not strong human studies, so it may never cause you trouble. Still, before pairing them, please check with your pharmacist or doctor.
