Drug & supplement interaction

Pyruvate + Insulin Aspart

Insulin Aspart brand name: Fiasp.

No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Pyruvate and Insulin Aspart in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.

Pyruvate and Insulin Aspart

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Insulin Aspart and Pyruvate in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Pyruvate at all — not against Insulin Aspart, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Pyruvate safety at a glance

Pyruvate overall Use caution Often tolerated in short studies but high doses cause digestive upset and long-term safety is not well studied.
Pregnancy Avoid There is not enough safety information, so it is best avoided during pregnancy.
Breastfeeding Avoid Safety while breastfeeding has not been studied, so avoid use.

Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.

No Interaction Found — But Data Suggests Pyruvate and Insulin Aspart May Share a Side Effect

This is not an interaction. Neither one changes how your body handles the other, and nothing here says they react together. What our sources do show is that each has separately been linked to the effects below — so taking both can make those effects more likely to turn up, and harder to pin on one or the other if they do.

Reported for Pyruvate but not commonly for Insulin Aspart: bloating or gas.

Effects for Insulin Aspart come from the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of its FDA label; effects for Pyruvate come from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record, quoted above. Where a percentage is shown, it is the share of 65,752 voluntary FDA FAERS reports for Insulin Aspart that mention that effect — a reporting proportion, not an incidence rate and not evidence the drug caused it. Wording is matched across sources by our own clinical vocabulary, so treat this as a prompt to pay attention, not a diagnosis.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Insulin Aspart page

“Every one of the 239 supplements listed for insulin aspart (Fiasp) touches the same thing the drug exists to manage, blood sugar, so this list warrants genuine care rather than a quick skim. Most entries add to insulin's glucose-lowering effect, raising the risk of hypoglycemia, and with a rapid-acting mealtime insulin a low can become…”

About Pyruvate

What is Pyruvate?

  • Weight loss and fat loss
  • Exercise performance and endurance
  • Energy boosting
  • Body composition support

Pyruvate is a natural compound your body makes during the breakdown of sugar for energy, and it is sold as a supplement mainly for weight loss and athletic performance. The evidence for these uses is weak and mixed, and high doses commonly cause stomach upset. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before trying it, especially if you have health conditions or take other medicines.

Capsules, tablets, powder; often as calcium pyruvate or sodium pyruvate

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Pyruvate is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Pyruvate record says about it on its own.

Pyruvate: dosing

There is no well-established standard dose for pyruvate. Studies have used a wide range of amounts, and many used large doses that caused stomach upset.Because a reliable effective and safe dose has not been settled, follow the directions on the product label and do not exceed them.

About Insulin Aspart (rDNA Origin) Injection

What Is Insulin Aspart (rDNA Origin) Injection Used For?

Brand name: Fiasp

Insulin aspart is used to improve blood sugar (glucose) control in people with diabetes mellitus. It is approved for both type 1 and type 2 diabetes in adults, and for diabetes mellitus in pediatric patients.

Insulin Aspart Protamine and Insulin Aspart Mix 70/30 is a pre-mixed product that combines a rapid-acting and an intermediate-acting insulin aspart. It is approved to improve blood sugar control in adult patients with diabetes mellitus. It is not recommended for treating diabetic ketoacidosis, and because its ratio of rapid-acting to intermediate-acting insulin is fixed, it does not allow for separate mealtime versus background dose adjustments.
