Cyclophosphamide falls under ALKYLATING AGENTS — the group Rose Hip interacts with.

Theoretically, the antioxidant effects of rose hip might reduce the effectiveness of alkylating agents but might also reduce the oxidative damage caused by certain alkylating agents.
Rose hip contains vitamin C. The use of antioxidants like vitamin C during chemotherapy is controversial. There is concern that antioxidants could reduce the activity of chemotherapy drugs that generate free radicals, such as cyclophosphamide, chlorambucil, carmustine, busulfan, and thiotepa. In contrast, some researchers theorize that antioxidants might make chemotherapy more effective by reducing oxidative stress that could interfere with apoptosis (cell death) of cancer cells. Further, some animal research suggests that the antioxidant effects of rose hip might attenuate cyclophosphamide-induced testicular toxicity. More evidence is needed to determine what effect, if any, antioxidants found in rose hip, such as vitamin C, have on the effectiveness and adverse effects of chemotherapy.

Here's the thing with rose hip and cyclophosphamide: rose hip is packed with vitamin C and other antioxidants. Cyclophosphamide partly fights cancer by generating free radicals (oxidative stress) that damage cancer cells. So there's a real theoretical worry that loading up on antioxidants could blunt how well your chemo works. On the flip side, some researchers think antioxidants might actually protect healthy tissue, and animal studies hint rose hip could ease some of cyclophosphamide's effects on the testes.

I want to be honest: this is theory based on how these compounds behave, not proven in people. But because cyclophosphamide is serious cancer treatment, I wouldn't take chances. Please don't start rose hip supplements without first checking with your oncology team. Eating normal food amounts is a different story than concentrated supplement doses.

Rose hip is the vitamin C–rich fruit of the wild rose, used traditionally for colds and joint pain. A standardized rose hip powder has some research support for easing osteoarthritis symptoms, but evidence for most other uses is limited. It is generally well tolerated as a food, but talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it as a supplement.

About Cyclophosphamide

What Is Cyclophosphamide Used For?

Brand names: Cytoxan, Neosar

Cyclophosphamide is used to treat many types of cancer in adults and children, including malignant lymphomas (such as Hodgkin's disease and Burkitt's lymphoma), multiple myeloma, several forms of leukemia, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, neuroblastoma, retinoblastoma, and advanced mycosis fungoides (a type of skin lymphoma). It is often given alongside other chemotherapy drugs rather than on its own.

Oral and injectable powder formulations (but not the Cyclophosphamide Injection solution concentrate) are also approved for minimal change nephrotic syndrome — a kidney condition — in children who have not responded well to, or cannot tolerate, steroid therapy. The injectable solution concentrate is approved for adult patients only due to its alcohol content, and is not approved for use in children.
