Bendamustine falls under ALKYLATING AGENTS — the group Rose Hip interacts with.

Theoretically, the antioxidant effects of rose hip might reduce the effectiveness of alkylating agents but might also reduce the oxidative damage caused by certain alkylating agents.
Rose hip contains vitamin C. The use of antioxidants like vitamin C during chemotherapy is controversial. There is concern that antioxidants could reduce the activity of chemotherapy drugs that generate free radicals, such as cyclophosphamide, chlorambucil, carmustine, busulfan, and thiotepa. In contrast, some researchers theorize that antioxidants might make chemotherapy more effective by reducing oxidative stress that could interfere with apoptosis (cell death) of cancer cells. Further, some animal research suggests that the antioxidant effects of rose hip might attenuate cyclophosphamide-induced testicular toxicity. More evidence is needed to determine what effect, if any, antioxidants found in rose hip, such as vitamin C, have on the effectiveness and adverse effects of chemotherapy.

Here's the situation with rose hip and your bendamustine. Bendamustine is a chemo drug that fights leukemia and lymphoma, and part of how some chemo works is by creating unstable molecules (free radicals) that damage cancer cells. Rose hip is loaded with antioxidants like vitamin C, which mop up those very same free radicals. So the worry is mostly theoretical: those antioxidants could blunt the punch your chemo is meant to deliver. To be fair, other researchers think antioxidants might actually help chemo work, so the science genuinely isn't settled.

Because this is a serious cancer treatment, I wouldn't gamble. Eating rose hip in tea or jam is unlikely to matter, but concentrated supplement doses are a different story. Please check with your oncologist or pharmacist before taking any rose hip supplement during treatment.

What Is Bendamustine Injection Used For?

Brand names: Treanda, Belrapzo, Vivimusta

Bendamustine hydrochloride injection is used to treat adults with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). It is also used for adults with indolent B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) — a slow-growing type of blood cancer — when the disease has continued to progress during or within six months of treatment with rituximab or a rituximab-containing regimen.

For CLL, how well bendamustine works compared to other first-line treatments (aside from chlorambucil) has not been fully established.
