Stone Root and Caffeine (prescription drug)

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Caffeine (prescription drug) and Stone Root in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Stone Root at all — not against Caffeine (prescription drug), and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

What Stone Root Itself Has Been Linked To

This is not an interaction — nothing below involves Caffeine (prescription drug). It is the side-effect record for Stone Root on its own, from the licensed Natural Medicines monograph. If something new turns up after you add Stone Root, this list is the first place to look.

  • Dizziness / Nausea Additional detail

“Orally, large amounts of stone root can cause intestinal tract irritation and colic-like pain dizziness, and nausea (18).”

Everything above comes from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record for Stone Root — expand a row for the licensed statement it rests on. We read the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Caffeine (prescription drug)’s FDA label too, and the two lists don’t meaningfully overlap — which is why no Caffeine (prescription drug) column appears here.

About Stone Root

What is Stone Root?

Stone Root
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Urinary and bladder discomfort
  • Digestive upset
  • Sore throat and hoarseness
  • Kidney stones (traditional)

Stone root is a North American herb traditionally used for hemorrhoids, urinary complaints, and digestive issues. There is very little modern scientific evidence to confirm it works for any of these uses, so it should be viewed as a traditional remedy rather than a proven treatment. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before trying it, especially if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or take other medicines.

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Stone Root is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Stone Root record says about it on its own.

Stone Root: dosing

There is no established standard dose for stone root. Traditional preparations include teas made from the dried root and alcohol-based tinctures, but reliable dosing guidelines from clinical studies do not exist. The safest approach is to follow the directions on the product label and not exceed them.
