Tormentil is a traditional herb whose root is rich in tannins and has long been used for diarrhea and as a mouth rinse for sore gums or throat. Some small studies suggest it may help shorten diarrhea, but overall evidence is limited and quality is low. About Eliglustat

What Is Eliglustat Used For?

Brand name: Cerdelga

Cerdelga (eliglustat) is used for the long-term treatment of Gaucher disease type 1 in adults. Gaucher disease type 1 is a genetic condition in which a fatty substance called glucosylceramide builds up in organs like the liver, spleen, and bone marrow, causing them to enlarge and leading to problems like anemia and low platelet counts.

Cerdelga is only appropriate for adults whose bodies process the drug in a predictable way — specifically those identified as CYP2D6 extensive metabolizers (EMs), intermediate metabolizers (IMs), or poor metabolizers (PMs) by an FDA-cleared genetic test. People who are CYP2D6 ultra-rapid metabolizers may not reach drug levels high enough to benefit, and Cerdelga is not recommended for them.
