Vietnamese Coriander and Pramlintide

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Pramlintide and Vietnamese Coriander in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Vietnamese Coriander at all — not against Pramlintide, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

What Pramlintide’s Own FDA Label Lists

This is not an interaction — none of it involves Vietnamese Coriander. These are the most notable effects listed in the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Pramlintide’s own FDA label, for the medication by itself. Knowing the drug’s own list makes it easier to work out the likely cause if something new turns up while you take both. 3 of them are worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

  • Low blood sugar Worth acting on
  • Pancreatitis Worth acting on
  • An allergic reaction Worth acting on
  • Sore throat
  • Cough
  • Joint pain
  • Reduced appetite
  • Tiredness mentioned in 7.8% of FDA reports for Pramlintide
  • Stomach pain
  • Nausea mentioned in 8.8% of FDA reports for Pramlintide

Showing the 10 most notable of 13 label-listed effects — ranked by how unusual each one is across medicines generally, with serious effects weighted up.

From the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of the FDA label for Pramlintide. Read the label on DailyMed › Where a percentage is shown, it is the share of 102 voluntary FDA FAERS reports for Pramlintide that mention that effect — a reporting proportion, not an incidence rate and not evidence the drug caused it. Vietnamese Coriander’s licensed record lists no adverse effects our clinical vocabulary could match, so there is no Vietnamese Coriander side to compare — that is a limit of the record, not a statement that Vietnamese Coriander has no side effects.

See Every Supplement That Interacts With Pramlintide

This page covers Vietnamese Coriander only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Pramlintide page lists 239 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.

The most serious there right now: Siberian Cocklebur (major), Acai (moderate), African Wild Potato (moderate), Agaricus Mushroom (moderate) and Agmatine (moderate).

By severity: 1 major · 208 moderate · 30 minor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Pramlintide page

“The single entry rated major on the pramlintide (Symlin) list is Siberian cocklebur, which has caused severe hypoglycemia in humans, not just in lab studies. That matters more than usual here because pramlintide is injected at mealtimes alongside insulin, and a dangerous low is already the main hazard of that pairing.”

About Vietnamese Coriander

What is Vietnamese Coriander?

  • Flavoring food
  • Digestive upset
  • Antimicrobial uses
  • Reducing sexual desire (traditional)
  • Skin and wound care (traditional)

Vietnamese coriander (rau ram) is a fragrant Southeast Asian culinary herb traditionally used for digestion and as an antimicrobial. There is very little human research to support its medicinal uses, so it is best thought of as a flavorful food rather than a proven remedy. Pregnant and breastfeeding people should avoid medicinal amounts, and anyone considering it as a supplement should check with a pharmacist or doctor.

Persicaria odorata · Polygonaceae · Leaves and stems · Fresh leaves (culinary herb), dried leaves, tea, essential oil

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Vietnamese Coriander is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Vietnamese Coriander record says about it on its own.

Vietnamese Coriander: dosing

There is no established or standardized medicinal dose for Vietnamese coriander. It is most often used simply as a fresh culinary herb, added to dishes to taste. If you choose to use a tea or supplement product, follow the directions on the label and do not exceed the recommended amount.

About Pramlintide Injection

What Is Pramlintide Injection Used For?

Brand name: Symlin

SymlinPen (pramlintide) is used as an add-on treatment for adults with type 1 or type 2 diabetes who already use mealtime insulin but still haven't reached their target blood sugar levels — even with optimal insulin therapy.

It is not a replacement for insulin. It works alongside insulin, given right before major meals, to reduce the spike in blood sugar that happens after eating.
