Amifampridine falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Xanthan Gum interacts with.

Theoretically, xanthan gum can alter the absorption of oral drugs due to its fiber qualities. Xanthan gum slows gastric emptying and has been used to control the release of drugs in tablet formulations. To avoid any alterations in drug absorption, xanthan gum should be taken 30-60 minutes after oral medications.

Here's the simple version: Amifampridine (Ruzurgi) is taken by mouth to help with muscle weakness in a condition called Lambert-Eaton syndrome. Xanthan gum is a soluble fiber that turns into a thick gel in your stomach and slows how fast things move through your gut. In theory, that gel could slow down or slightly change how much of your amifampridine gets absorbed. This isn't a chemical clash, it's more of a timing and absorption concern.

The good news is this is only a theoretical worry based on how fiber behaves, not something proven to cause problems. Small food amounts of xanthan gum are unlikely to matter. If you're using larger thickener or supplement doses, a smart move is to take your amifampridine first and wait about 30 to 60 minutes before the xanthan gum. Run it by your pharmacist or doctor to be sure.
