Ylang Ylang Oil + Ketoconazole
Ketoconazole brand name: Nizoral.
We found no known interaction between Ylang Ylang Oil and Ketoconazole in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.
Ylang Ylang Oil and Ketoconazole
We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.
No Known Interaction Found
We did not find a documented interaction between Ketoconazole and Ylang Ylang Oil in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.
Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Ylang Ylang Oil at all — not against Ketoconazole, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.
If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.
Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Ketoconazole page
“Ketoconazole (Nizoral) is already hard on the liver, so treat its 182 interacting supplements with genuine care, starting with the six rated major. Most of the list runs through CYP3A4, the liver enzyme ketoconazole strongly blocks, so it can raise levels of over a hundred herbal ingredients, while grapefruit pushes ketoconazole itself…”

About Ylang Ylang Oil
What is Ylang Ylang Oil?
- Stress and anxiety relief
- Aromatherapy and relaxation
- Promoting restful sleep
- Skin and hair care
- Mood and well-being
Ylang ylang oil is a fragrant essential oil made from the flowers of the Cananga odorata tree, used mostly in aromatherapy and skin care for relaxation. Some small studies hint at mild calming effects, but the evidence is limited, and it should never be swallowed and must always be diluted before being applied to skin.
Cananga odorata · Annonaceae · Essential oil distilled from the flowers · Essential oil, diluted massage oil, aromatherapy blends, room diffusers, perfumes and cosmetics
An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Ylang Ylang Oil is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Ylang Ylang Oil record says about it on its own.
Ylang Ylang Oil: dosing
There is no established standard dose for ylang ylang oil, and it is not meant to be taken internally. For aromatherapy, a few drops are typically added to a diffuser or inhaled briefly. For topical use, the oil should always be diluted to a low concentration in a carrier oil.Because products vary widely in strength, follow the directions on the label and start with the smallest amount.

About Ketoconazole
What Is Ketoconazole Used For?
Brand name: Nizoral
Ketoconazole 2% shampoo and foam are used to treat tinea versicolor (also called pityriasis versicolor) — a fungal infection caused by Pityrosporum orbiculare (also known as Malassezia furfur), a yeast that naturally lives on the skin.
This infection creates light or dark patches, most often on the trunk, neck, arms, and upper thighs. Even after the fungus is cleared, those skin patches may take months to return to their normal color — that's normal, and depends on your skin type and sun exposure. Tinea versicolor can also come back, since the fungus lives on healthy skin even when there's no active infection.
