HelloPharmacist Scorecard of 100% Pure L-Tyrosine 500 mg by NutraBio
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: L-tyrosine at 500 mg per capsule. Tyrosine is an amino acid your body uses to make neurotransmitters (chemical messengers in your brain) and thyroid hormones.
The capsule itself is made from vegetable material.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
The evidence is strongest for phenylketonuria (PKU), a genetic condition — tyrosine is effective for that. For cognitive function and memory, the data suggests it's possibly effective, though the evidence isn't conclusive.
For athletic performance, the evidence suggests it's possibly ineffective. We don't have enough reliable evidence to rate it for alcohol use disorder or dementia.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Tyrosine is generally well tolerated in healthy adults, though the data on long-term use isn't thorough. The most common side effects reported are fatigue, headache, heartburn, and nausea.
At very high doses, headache and fatigue increase, and combining it with other supplements can cause drowsiness, agitation, diarrhea, and vomiting — effects that usually improve if you lower the dose. We don't have enough safety data on pregnancy or breastfeeding, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it in either situation.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Double-check this before you start if you take levodopa (for Parkinson's disease) — separate your doses by at least two hours. Also check if you're on thyroid hormone medication, since tyrosine might increase its effects.
Use the search tool below with your exact medications to be sure.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with strong clinical evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
L-tyrosine may help with cognitive function and memory in some people, and it's the standard treatment for PKU. If you take levodopa for Parkinson's or thyroid hormone medication, you'll need to be cautious and check with your pharmacist.
Even in healthy adults, talk with a healthcare provider before starting regular use.

100% Pure L-Tyrosine 500 mg by NutraBio Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
NutraBio's L-Tyrosine can interact with medications you may be taking.
The main concern is levodopa (used for Parkinson's disease): tyrosine and levodopa compete for absorption in your gut, so tyrosine might make levodopa less effective. If you take levodopa, space your tyrosine dose at least two hours away from it.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The other significant interaction is with thyroid hormone medications. Tyrosine is a building block for thyroid hormones, so taking it alongside thyroid drugs might boost hormone levels more than your doctor intended — another Moderate-severity concern.
Altogether, these interactions span 21 individual medications. Use the medication checker on this page to search your exact prescriptions before you start.
