Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: alpha-glycerylphosphorylcholine (alpha-GPC), a compound that supports brain function and is sometimes used in cognitive and neurological conditions. The capsule also contains L-leucine and a hypromellose capsule shell as inactive ingredients.

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: improve cognitive performance and enhance cognitive function.
  • We looked for evidence on: Cognitive function, Alzheimer disease, Memory, Learning, Age-related cognitive decline.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Alpha-gpc is rated "Possibly Effective" for Alzheimer disease (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Alpha-gpc is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Cognitive function.

The evidence for alpha-GPC is mixed. It's rated possibly effective for Alzheimer disease, but for brain tumor, cognitive function in general, vascular dementia, and stroke recovery, we don't have reliable evidence to rate how well it works.

The data we hold doesn't establish whether it helps healthy people maintain memory or focus.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Alpha-GPC is generally well tolerated orally, though long-term safety hasn't been fully studied. Rarely, it's been associated with dizziness, headache, insomnia, nausea, heartburn, and diarrhea.

A rare but serious concern: alpha-GPC used for 2 months or longer has been associated with elevated stroke risk compared with non-users or shorter-term use. There isn't enough safety information available for use in pregnancy or breastfeeding — talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you.

Minor interactions only
Known Interaction Concern · database check
Minor only

Only Minor-severity interactions are documented for these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Alpha-gpc.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Minor.
  • For scale: 16 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

If you use a scopolamine patch (Transderm Scop) for motion sickness, check with your pharmacist before starting — alpha-GPC may weaken its effects.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.

Alpha-GPC may help with Alzheimer disease, but evidence for other cognitive uses is weak. If you're taking a scopolamine patch or any other medications, check them first.

The rare stroke risk with long-term use is worth discussing with your doctor.

Formula

Alpha-GPC (Glycerylphosphorylcholine) is a superior nutritional source of the vitamin-like molecule Choline. In contrast to Choline Bitartrate, which has poor oral bioavailability, Alpha-GPC is readily absorbed in the upper gastrointestinal tract due to its highly lipophilic structure. This makes Alpha-GPC a superb nootropic as it actively increases acetylcholine synthesis and promotes cognitive function without the side effects of central nervous system stimulants.

Scopolamine (Transderm Scop)

Theoretically, alpha-GPC might decrease the effects of scopolamine.
A small clinical study shows that alpha-GPC can partially counteract the attention and memory impairment effects caused by scopolamine given intramuscularly. Whether alpha-GPC can decrease the beneficial anti-motion sickness effects of the scopolamine patch (Transderm Scop) is unclear.
