Arnica Extract Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Arnica Extract against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Arnica Extract by MBi Nutraceuticals
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: arnica extract in liquid form. Arnica is a plant traditionally used to address minor pain and swelling.
The liquid also holds deionized water, ethanol, glycerin, and benzyl alcohol as inactive ingredients that keep the extract stable and drinkable.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for arnica backs its use for osteoarthritis — that's rated possibly effective. For acne, breast cancer hot flashes, pain after surgery, and dry eye, the evidence isn't strong enough yet to say whether it works.
We don't have solid data on this product for those uses.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Here's the critical safety issue: arnica taken by mouth in full strength — like an undiluted liquid or swallowed flowers — is unsafe and can cause serious toxicity. Common side effects from oral use include bleeding, stomach upset, nausea, vomiting, high blood pressure, muscle weakness, and shortness of breath.
Rare but serious effects include heart rhythm problems, coma, organ failure, and death. Homeopathic arnica is much gentler and generally well tolerated.
During pregnancy and breastfeeding, there isn't enough safety data — the evidence advises against it. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this product is right for you in these situations.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on any blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs — that's a moderate interaction risk. We have interaction data for one drug type across this product's ingredients.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Arnica extract may help with osteoarthritis pain, but the evidence for other uses isn't established. The main concern is that it can thin your blood slightly and interact with blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs.
If you take any clot-prevention medication, check your exact drugs with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this product. Pregnant or nursing — talk it over with your healthcare provider first.

Arnica Extract by MBi Nutraceuticals Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Arnica Extract by MBi Nutraceuticals can interact with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (medications that prevent clots).
The concern is moderate: arnica may add to their effect, which could increase bleeding risk. Lab work shows that compounds in arnica flowers can slow down platelet clumping, but this hasn't been seen in actual patients yet.
Homeopathic arnica preparations are unlikely to cause this problem.

Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, arnica might have additive effects with anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs. Homeopathic arnica preparations are unlikely to have this interaction.
In vitro evidence shows that sesquiterpene lactones in arnica flowers can decrease platelet aggregation. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.
