What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: aronia melanocarpa (chokeberry), a concentrated 20:1 extract. Chokeberry is a berry rich in polyphenols (plant compounds with antioxidant activity).
There are no inactive ingredients listed for this powder.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence on aronia for most uses is limited. For cardiovascular disease, the data suggests it's possibly ineffective—we don't see the heart-health benefits some marketers claim.
For age-related cognitive decline, macular degeneration, athletic performance, and cancer, we don't have enough reliable evidence to say whether it works or doesn't. If you're considering this for heart or brain health, talk to your doctor about what the actual evidence supports.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Chokeberry is generally well tolerated when eaten as food, but supplement safety hasn't been thoroughly studied—especially not in concentrated forms like this 20:1 extract. The most common side effects are gastrointestinal: constipation, diarrhea, nausea, stomach cramps, and vomiting.
In small studies, roughly one in seven people reported digestive issues with moderate doses, but in higher doses, about half of participants reported diarrhea, nausea, stomach pain, or appetite loss. Because this is a concentrated supplement rather than whole fruit, use caution and start low.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, check with your pharmacist if you use blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (warfarin, aspirin, clopidogrel), diabetes medications, or trabectedin. Chokeberry can increase bleeding risk, lower blood sugar further, or raise drug levels in ways that matter for your safety.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Aronia extract may appeal to you if you're chasing antioxidants, but the evidence it helps with heart disease or aging doesn't hold up. Be careful if you take blood thinners, diabetes drugs, or trabectedin—chokeberry can change how these work.
Talk to your pharmacist before you start, especially if you're on any regular medications.

Aronia melanocarpa monograph & interactionsAronia 20:1 Concentrated Extract by Samsara Herbs Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Aronia 20:1 Concentrated Extract by Samsara Herbs contains aronia (chokeberry), which does interact with medications.
The most serious concern is with trabectedin (Yondelis), a cancer drug—one case report describes a patient who developed severe muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis) while taking trabectedin and drinking chokeberry juice. Chokeberry may slow how your liver breaks down this drug, raising its levels in your blood.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Chokeberry also interacts with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (like warfarin, aspirin, and clopidogrel). The extract can slow clotting, which means it may raise your bleeding risk if combined with these medications.
Additionally, if you take diabetes drugs, chokeberry may lower your blood sugar further—though the evidence is mixed, some studies show it does reduce glucose levels. Chokeberry may also increase levels of other drugs your liver metabolizes through a common pathway (CYP3A4 substrates), a Moderate-severity interaction.
Altogether, these interactions span 800 individual medications. Check your exact prescriptions with the tool on this page before you start.

For each ingredient in Aronia 20:1 Concentrated Extract with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Aronia melanocarpa
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, chokeberry might increase the risk of bleeding when taken with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Clinical and in vitro research suggests that chokeberry extract can temporarily inhibit platelet aggregation and decrease clot formation.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, chokeberry might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Some clinical research shows that chokeberry decreases levels of blood glucose in some patients with diabetes. However, other clinical research suggests that chokeberry has no significant effect on blood glucose levels.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, chokeberry might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that chokeberry inhibits CYP3A4. In humans, there is one case report of a drug interaction with trabectedin, a CYP3A4 substrate, which is hypothesized to have been caused by chokeberry inhibition of CYP3A4.
Trabectedin (Yondelis)
Theoretically, chokeberry might increase the effects and adverse effects of trabectedin.
In one case report, a patient drinking chokeberry juice developed rhabdomyolysis induced by trabectedin, a cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) substrate. It is possible that inhibition of CYP3A4 by chokeberry juice might have inhibited the metabolism of trabectedin and increased trabectedin levels in this patient.
