Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product is a concentrated extract of ashitaba — a single active ingredient at 20:1 strength, meaning 20 parts of the plant have been reduced to 1 part powder. There are no other active ingredients and no inactive fillers listed.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Ashitaba product and its label doesn't state a use — see Ashitaba's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The data we hold does not establish reliable evidence for ashitaba's effectiveness for alcohol-related liver disease. The evidence rating is insufficient, which means the science isn't yet settled on whether it works for that use.

How safe is it?

Some data gaps
Safety Information · database check
Some gaps

Safety data exists for these ingredients, but with some important gaps.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 0 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Ashitaba is likely safe as a food, but its safety as a concentrated supplement hasn't been well studied. The safety data advises against using concentrated ashitaba supplements during pregnancy and while breastfeeding — there isn't enough information to know it's safe in those situations.

Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this product is right for you if you're pregnant, nursing, or planning to be.

Ashitaba may slow how your liver clears certain medications that depend on the CYP1A2 enzyme — a Moderate concern based on lab research. The interaction hasn't been seen in actual patients, but caution is advised.

Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates

In vitro research shows that ashitaba extract inhibits cytochrome P450 (CYP) 1A2. Theoretically, concomitant use of ashitaba with CYP1A2 substrates might decrease the clearance of these substrates and increase the risk for adverse effects. However, this interaction has yet to be reported in humans. Until more is known, use with caution.
