What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: Bamboo Leaf, Stem Extract at 500 mg per serving. Bamboo is a plant source — the extract comes from the leaf and stem.
The powder also contains maltodextrin, an inactive ingredient used as a filler to give the supplement volume.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for bamboo extract's effectiveness against dental caries (cavities) is insufficient to rate — we don't have reliable data to say whether it works for that purpose.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Bamboo shoots eaten as food are generally well tolerated when cooked properly, but supplement safety hasn't been well studied. Raw shoots can be toxic.
Bamboo is also a source of cyanide glycosides, though these are eliminated during normal cooking (boiling, fermentation, or steam drying). The data mentions a historical incident of cyanide poisoning linked to contaminated pickling liquid, not typical supplement use.
Contact dermatitis has been reported in one case when bamboo was applied to the skin. There is not enough safety data on bamboo supplements to recommend them during pregnancy — the safety notes advise against concentrated forms at that time.
While breastfeeding, safety is unknown; avoid concentrated extracts unless your doctor has cleared it.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you're on antithyroid drugs, double-check this product with your pharmacist before you start — it may strengthen the medication's effects and increase the risk of low thyroid hormone levels.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
If you take antithyroid medication for an overactive thyroid, check with your pharmacist before starting this supplement — long-term use may intensify your drug's effects. For other uses, the evidence on whether bamboo extract actually works isn't established in our data.
