What’s inside
Full disclosure
Bamboo Silica Beauty contains one active ingredient: bamboo shoot extract. The product also contains three inactive ingredients — hypromellose (a capsule material), microcrystalline cellulose, and stearic acid — which serve as fillers and binders.
Bamboo has been used traditionally to support skin, hair, and nail health, though the evidence supporting these claims in people is limited.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence supporting bamboo shoot extract for dental caries (cavities) is insufficient to rate its effectiveness. We don't have strong human trial data showing it works reliably for this purpose or for other marketed benefits.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Bamboo shoots are eaten regularly when properly cooked — boiling, fermentation, or superheated steam drying removes a naturally occurring cyanide compound they contain. Concentrated supplements like this extract, however, have not been well studied for safety.
The safety data advises against concentrated bamboo supplements during pregnancy. While breastfeeding, safety is unknown; unless your doctor has cleared it, concentrated extracts are best avoided.
In rare cases, topical bamboo has caused contact dermatitis. If you have any concerns about how this supplement might affect you, talk with your pharmacist or doctor.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take antithyroid drugs (medications for an overactive thyroid), check with your pharmacist before using this product — long-term bamboo use may strengthen their effects and potentially cause low thyroid hormone as a side effect.
The bottom line
