Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: beet root powder. It's a concentrated form of beetroot, the vegetable itself, processed into powder form.
There are no other inactive ingredients listed.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Beet root powder has possibly effective evidence for athletic performance and exercise-induced muscle soreness — the data suggests it may help, but more research would strengthen that claim. For chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), the evidence suggests it's possibly ineffective.
For dyslipidemia (abnormal blood fat levels) and cognitive function, we don't hold enough reliable evidence to rate it one way or the other.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Beet as a food is widely eaten and generally well tolerated by most adults. However, concentrated supplements like this powder lack the safety data that whole food has, so use caution.
Short-term use appears well tolerated for medicinal purposes. The most common side effects are red stools and red urine — harmless color changes from the beet pigment.
Rare serious effects reported at large doses include low blood calcium (hypocalcemia) and kidney damage. One case described black stools and nausea in an older adult on blood thinners after taking beet pills; the risk of bleeding was assessed as low.
We hold no data on safety during lactation.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check your medications against this product if you take any CYP3A4 substrates (a huge class affecting 850 drugs — your pharmacist can tell you if yours is one), CYP1A2 substrates, or antihypertensive (blood pressure) drugs. The CYP3A4 interaction is the most serious concern because lab data mimics a strong enzyme inhibitor, though real-world risk isn't fully known.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Beet root powder may help with athletic performance or exercise recovery if the evidence pans out for you. If you take any prescription medications — especially heart drugs, blood thinners, or anything metabolized by your liver — check them against this product's interactions before you start.
Talk to your pharmacist about whether concentrated beet is right for you, especially if you're concerned about blood pressure or kidney function.

Beet Root Powder by BulkSupplements.com Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Beet Root Powder by BulkSupplements.com contains one active ingredient — beet root powder — that interacts with a significant number of medications.
The most serious concern is with CYP3A4 substrates (a large class of drugs your liver metabolizes). Lab research shows betanin, beet's main pigment, can inhibit this enzyme in a dose-dependent way, theoretically raising the levels of these drugs in your bloodstream.
Altogether, these interactions span 850 individual medications.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Beet may also affect drugs metabolized by the CYP1A2 enzyme (a Minor severity concern), potentially lowering their levels and reducing their effect. Antihypertensive drugs (blood pressure medications) carry a Minor interaction risk: beet contains nitrates that can cause blood vessels to relax and lower blood pressure, though one study found no significant effect in practice.
Because the interaction data for beet comes mostly from lab research rather than clinical trials, the real-world risk is not fully known. If you take any prescription medication — especially one metabolized by your liver — run your exact drugs through the checker on this page before you start.

Beet root powder
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, beet might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that betanin, the major pigment in beet, competitively inhibits CYP3A4 in a dose-dependent manner similarly to strong CYP3A4 inhibitor ketoconazole.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Beet and beetroot contain nitrates, which can cause vasodilation, potentially leading to lower blood pressure. However, a study published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition using concentrated beetroot juice found no significant impact on blood pressure or heart rate in different age groups. Other small clinical studies suggest that while beet consumption might transiently lower blood pressure due to vessel dilation, there's no consistent evidence of a lasting effect. Overall, the theoretical risk of reduced blood pressure due to beet's nitrate content exists, but studies generally indicate a low and temporary impact rather than a sustained decrease.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, beet might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that beet induces CYP1A2 enzymes.
