Bergisterol contains two active ingredients: organic Amla extract (also called Indian gooseberry) and Bergamonte (bergamot). Both are plant extracts.
The product also includes inactive ingredients — hydroxypropyl methylcellulose and BergaFlow bergamot fiber — which are used as binders and fillers in the capsule.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Indian gooseberry is possibly effective for acid reflux (GERD) and possibly effective for high cholesterol and triglycerides (dyslipidemia). For hair loss (androgenic alopecia) and high cholesterol alone (hypercholesterolemia), the evidence isn't strong enough to rate.
Bergamot is possibly effective for high triglycerides and cholesterol (hyperlipidemia), but the data shows it's possibly ineffective for mental alertness. For fatty liver disease and autism spectrum disorder, we don't have enough reliable evidence to say whether it works.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Indian gooseberry is generally well tolerated as a food, but safety data for supplement doses is limited — the safety notes advise caution. Pregnancy and breastfeeding: the data says there isn't enough safety information during breastfeeding, so it's best to avoid it then.
Bergamot extract appears generally well tolerated when used short-term, but the essential oil can be toxic if swallowed and causes sun-related skin reactions on the skin. Pregnancy and breastfeeding: the safety data advises against bergamot in pregnancy and says safety while breastfeeding is unknown, so avoiding it is the safer choice.
Side effects from Indian gooseberry reported in trials include stomach discomfort or indigestion, fatigue, and muscle or joint pain in a small number of participants. Bergamot by mouth or as aromatherapy seems well tolerated, but topically it can cause blisters, redness, photosensitivity, skin lesions, and pigment spots, especially in fair-skinned people.

Bergamonte
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, taking bergamot with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Animal research suggests that bergamot juice has hypoglycemic effects.
Photosensitizing Drugs
Theoretically, topical bergamot essential oil might increase the risk of side effects when used along with photosensitizing drugs.
Bergamot contains bergapten, which has photosensitizing effects.
organic Amla extract
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, Indian gooseberry may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs; however, research is conflicting.
Clinical research shows that taking Indian gooseberry 500 mg as a single dose or twice daily for 10 days reduces platelet aggregation by about 24% to 36%, increases bleeding time by about 3.8-5.9 seconds, and increases clotting time by about 9.8-12.7 seconds when compared to baseline. However, taking Indian gooseberry 500 mg along with clopidogrel 75 mg or ecosprin 75 mg, as a single dose or for 10 days, does not significantly reduce platelet aggregation or increase bleeding time or clotting time when compared with clopidogrel 75 mg or ecosprin 75 mg alone. Until more is known, use caution when taking Indian gooseberry in combination with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Taking Indian gooseberry with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Clinical research shows that taking Indian gooseberry fruit or fruit extract alone or in conjunction with antidiabetes medications can lower blood glucose levels. Dose adjustments to diabetes medications might be necessary.
Aspirin
Theoretically, Indian gooseberry may increase the risk of bleeding if used with aspirin; however, research is conflicting.
Clinical research shows that taking Indian gooseberry 500 mg as a single dose or twice daily for 10 days reduces platelet aggregation by about 24% to 36%, increases bleeding time by about 3.8-5.9 seconds, and increases clotting time by about 9.8-12.7 seconds when compared to baseline.
