Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: bromelain, an enzyme derived from pineapple. You're getting 600 GDU (gelatin-dissolving units, a measure of the enzyme's strength) in a 450 mg dose per capsule.
The capsule itself is made from gelatin and water — the inactive ingredients that hold the bromelain together.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence we hold on bromelain doesn't establish it as effective for the uses listed in the product information — hay fever, burns, cancer, nerve damage from chemotherapy, poor circulation in the veins, or diabetes. For all of these, the data is rated insufficient to say whether it works.
If you're considering this product for a specific condition, talk it over with your doctor about what the current evidence actually supports.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
When taken by mouth, bromelain is generally well tolerated, though long-term safety data is limited. The most common side effects are diarrhea, gas, stomach upset, and headache.
Some people may also feel nausea, vomiting, or belly pain. There's a risk of allergic reactions — including IgE-mediated reactions (a type of immune response) — and if bromelain is inhaled, it may trigger sensitization and asthma-like symptoms, sore throat, eye irritation, and runny nose.
The safety data advises against bromelain during pregnancy. Safety while breastfeeding is unknown, so it's best avoided then too.
If you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (including aspirin, warfarin, clopidogrel, and similar medications), check with your doctor or pharmacist first — bromelain may raise your bleeding risk. Also double-check if you're on tetracycline antibiotics, since bromelain might affect how your body absorbs them.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Bromelain is a single-ingredient enzyme supplement that's generally well tolerated short-term when taken by mouth, though the evidence doesn't establish it as effective for any of the conditions listed here. The main caution is with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs — it may increase bleeding risk.
Before you start, check your exact medications with your doctor or pharmacist to make sure this product is right for you.

Bromelain 600 GDU 450 mg by TerraVita Premium Collection Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Bromelain 600 GDU 450 mg by TerraVita Premium Collection does interact with certain medications.
The main concern is blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (like warfarin, aspirin, and clopidogrel). Bromelain may have antiplatelet effects — meaning it can affect how your blood clots — and using it with these medications could raise your bleeding risk.
There's even a case report of someone who got minor bruising while taking bromelain with naproxen, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory pain reliever.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Bromelain may also theoretically increase how much tetracycline antibiotics (a class used for bacterial infections and acne) your body absorbs. Lab work suggests this could happen, though one study in healthy adults found no actual change in tetracycline levels when taken with a smaller bromelain dose.
Altogether, these interactions span 141 individual medications. Use the medication checker on this page to look up your exact drugs before you start.

Bromelain
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Bromelain may have antiplatelet effects and may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
There is one case report of a patient experiencing minor bruising while taking bromelain with naproxen. Bromelain is thought to have antiplatelet activity. Whether this interaction is of concern with topical bromelain is unclear. Interference with coagulation of burn wounds has been reported in a patient receiving bromelain-based enzymatic debridement. However, observational research has found that topical bromelain debridement is not associated with increases or decreases in laboratory markers of coagulation when compared with surgical debridement.
Tetracycline Antibiotics
Theoretically, bromelain might increase levels of tetracycline antibiotics.
Laboratory research suggests that bromelain might increase the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics. However, a study in healthy adults reported no difference in tetracycline plasma levels when a 500 mg dose was taken with or without bromelain 80 mg.
