Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

Caralluma MD contains one active ingredient: caralluma fimbriata whole plant extract at 1,600 mg per capsule. The only inactive ingredient on file is cellulose, a common binder.

Not established
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see Caralluma's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: appetite suppression and weight management.
  • We looked for evidence on: Obesity, weight loss, appetite control, metabolic health.
  • The closest evidence on file: Caralluma is rated "Possibly Ineffective" for Obesity (Natural Medicines).

The evidence for caralluma is mixed and limited. For obesity, the data suggests it's possibly ineffective — meaning the studies we have don't support that it helps with weight loss.

For generalized anxiety disorder and Prader-Willi syndrome, we don't have enough reliable evidence to rate whether it works or doesn't.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Caralluma appears generally well tolerated in short-term use, but long-term safety hasn't been well studied. In clinical trials, some people reported gastrointestinal side effects — bloating, constipation, gas, and stomach irritation — in the first two weeks; these usually went away on their own and also showed up in people taking placebo.

One person with a history of high blood pressure saw a temporary rise when taking caralluma, but it came back down and didn't return. Don't use this product during pregnancy — there isn't enough safety information.

Avoid it while breastfeeding as well. If you're pregnant, nursing, or planning to become pregnant, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before considering this supplement.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. No medication interactions are currently documented, and safety information is well characterized.

Caralluma MD may be worth a try if you're curious about its appetite-related claims, though the evidence for weight loss is weak. If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a history of high blood pressure, steer clear unless your doctor says otherwise.

Watch for stomach upset in the first couple of weeks — it usually settles down. Chat with your pharmacist if you have questions about whether it fits your health picture.

Caralluma MD 1600 mg by Approved Science: Common Questions

Does Caralluma MD 1600 mg by Approved Science interact with any medications?
We do not currently list a known interaction for the mapped ingredients in Caralluma MD 1600 mg. This does not guarantee none exist, so confirm with your pharmacist.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Caralluma MD 1600 mg contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Will caralluma help me lose weight?
The evidence suggests it's possibly ineffective for obesity. The studies we have don't show it helps with weight loss, so it's not a reliable choice if that's your main goal.
What side effects should I expect?
Some people get bloating, constipation, gas, or stomach irritation in the first two weeks of use. These usually fade on their own. In one case, someone with high blood pressure saw a temporary increase, so if you have hypertension, mention this product to your doctor first.
Can I take this while pregnant or breastfeeding?
No. There isn't enough safety data to know either way, so the safety information advises against use in both pregnancy and breastfeeding. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice if you're pregnant, nursing, or planning to conceive.
Is caralluma safe long-term?
Short-term use appears generally well tolerated in studies, but long-term safety hasn't been well established. If you're thinking of taking it for months on end, check with your pharmacist first.
What is caralluma fimbriata?
It's a whole plant extract from a succulent cactus. It's been used traditionally to help suppress hunger, though the modern evidence for that isn't strong.
