Chamomile extract is generally well tolerated by most adults. The main safety concern is allergies: if you're sensitive to ragweed or plants in the daisy family, you may have a reaction.

Reported side effects include allergic dermatitis and eczema when applied to skin, and in some cases nausea and mouth burning when used as an oral rinse. Rarely, severe allergic reactions including anaphylaxis have been reported.

German chamomile has mild sedative effects. Theoretically, concomitant use with drugs with sedative properties can cause additive effects and side effects.
