Abiraterone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group German Chamomile interacts with.

Theoretically, German chamomile might inhibit CYP3A4 and increase levels of drugs metabolized by these enzymes.
In vitro evidence shows that German chamomile might inhibit CYP3A4. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, there might be an increase in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 in patients taking German chamomile.

Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear abiraterone (Zytiga). In lab dish studies, German chamomile appears to slow this same enzyme down a bit. If that happened in real life, abiraterone could build up a little more than expected, which in theory might mean more of its known side effects, things like fatigue, high blood pressure, swelling in the legs, low potassium, or strain on the liver.

Here's the reassuring part: this is only based on test-tube research, and it has never actually been reported in people. An occasional cup of chamomile tea is unlikely to cause trouble. Still, since you're being treated for cancer, it's worth a quick chat with your oncologist or pharmacist before using concentrated chamomile supplements. Don't change anything on your own.

German chamomile is a widely used herbal remedy taken mainly as a tea for calming, sleep, and digestive complaints. Early research suggests possible benefits for mild anxiety and some skin or digestive issues, but the evidence is limited and most uses are based on tradition rather than strong proof. It is generally well tolerated, but people allergic to ragweed or related plants and those who are pregnant should be cautious.

About Abiraterone

What Is Abiraterone Used For?

Abiraterone acetate tablets are used to treat two types of advanced prostate cancer: metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC — cancer that has spread and keeps growing despite low testosterone levels) and metastatic high-risk castration-sensitive prostate cancer (CSPC — cancer that has spread but still responds to hormone-lowering treatment). It is always taken together with a corticosteroid — most products pair with prednisone, while Yonsa is specifically indicated with methylprednisolone.

All products — including Abiraterone, Abiraterone Acetate, Abirtega, Yonsa, and Zytiga — are taken by mouth as a tablet. Yonsa is approved only for metastatic CRPC, while the other products (Abiraterone, Abiraterone Acetate, Abirtega, and Zytiga) are approved for both metastatic CRPC and metastatic high-risk CSPC.
