Meloxicam falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group German Chamomile interacts with.

Theoretically, German chamomile might inhibit CYP2C9 and increase levels of drugs metabolized by these enzymes.
In vitro evidence shows that German chamomile might inhibit CYP2C9. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, there might be an increase in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9 in patients taking German chamomile.

Here's the gist: your body clears meloxicam mainly through a liver enzyme called CYP2C9. Lab studies hint that German chamomile may slow that enzyme down a bit. If it does, meloxicam could linger longer in your system and build up, which can mean stronger drug levels than expected.

For an NSAID like meloxicam, that could show up as more typical side effects, things like stomach upset or irritation, heartburn, fluid retention, higher blood pressure, or in rarer cases stomach bleeding or kidney strain. That said, this is theoretical, based only on test-tube work and never actually reported in people. A cup of chamomile tea now and then is very unlikely to cause trouble. Concentrated extracts are more of a question mark, so it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist before adding them.

German chamomile is a widely used herbal remedy taken mainly as a tea for calming, sleep, and digestive complaints. Early research suggests possible benefits for mild anxiety and some skin or digestive issues, but the evidence is limited and most uses are based on tradition rather than strong proof. It is generally well tolerated, but people allergic to ragweed or related plants and those who are pregnant should be cautious.

About Meloxicam

What Is Meloxicam Used For?

Brand names: Mobic, Vivlodex, Qmiiz ODT, Anjeso

Meloxicam tablets and oral suspension treat the signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA). The oral suspension and Zybic™ oral suspension are approved for JRA in children 2 years and older; meloxicam tablets are approved for JRA in patients who weigh at least 60 kg. Meloxicam capsules are approved specifically for the management of osteoarthritis pain.

Two IV (intravenous) formulations — QAMZOVA and XIFYRM — are indicated for adults for the management of moderate-to-severe pain, used alone or with non-NSAID pain relievers. Because these IV forms take time to reach full effect, they are not recommended when rapid pain relief is needed.
