HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Cholesterol Pro by NOW
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Cholesterol Pro contains two active ingredients: Bergamonte Full Spectrum Bergamot extract and Pine Phytosterol powder. Bergamot extract comes from a citrus fruit and contains bergapten, a naturally occurring compound.
Pine phytosterols are plant-derived compounds. The tablet also contains several inactive ingredients — microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, calcium carbonate, magnesium stearate, stearic acid, silicon dioxide, and a vegetarian coating — that help hold the tablet together and make it easier to swallow.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Bergamot extract is possibly effective for high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia), based on available evidence. For nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and autism spectrum disorder, the evidence we hold is insufficient to rate it.
Bergamot is also rated possibly ineffective for mental alertness. We hold no effectiveness data for Pine Phytosterol powder.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
The oral bergamot extract in this product appears generally well tolerated when used short-term, though one person reported heartburn in clinical research. The safety facts we hold advise against taking bergamot during pregnancy and breastfeeding because there isn't enough data to know it's safe in either situation.
You should know that the essential oil of bergamot — different from the extract in this tablet — can be toxic if swallowed and cause sun-related skin damage; avoid direct sun exposure or use high-SPF sunscreen if you use this product, especially if you have fair skin.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking Cholesterol Pro, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take photosensitizing drugs (such as certain antibiotics and doxycycline) or antidiabetes medications. Both interactions are Moderate severity, and both could affect how your drugs work.
We have no documented interactions for Pine Phytosterol powder to report.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
If you have high cholesterol and want to explore natural options, Cholesterol Pro's bergamot extract is possibly effective — but it's worth discussing with your doctor first if you take diabetes medications or any drugs that increase sun sensitivity. Pregnant or breastfeeding?
The safety data advises against it. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before adding this to your routine, particularly if you're on any prescriptions.

Cholesterol Pro by NOW Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Cholesterol Pro by NOW contains bergamot extract, which has documented interactions with two medication types.
The most serious concern is with photosensitizing drugs (Moderate severity) — bergamot contains bergapten, a compound that increases light sensitivity, and using it alongside these medications may raise your risk of sun-related skin reactions.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Bergamot also interacts with antidiabetes drugs (Moderate severity). Animal research suggests bergamot may lower blood sugar, so combining it with diabetes medications could theoretically increase your risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
We could not check Pine Phytosterol powder — we hold no interaction data for it. Altogether, these interactions span 410 individual medications.
Use the medication checker on this page to see if any of your prescriptions are affected, and talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this product if you take either photosensitizing or diabetes medications.
