Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: choline bitartrate, a form of choline that your body needs to support brain function, nerve signaling, and cell structure. Each capsule delivers 350 mg of choline bitartrate.

The capsule itself is made from gelatin and silica (an inactive ingredient used to prevent clumping).

Insufficient evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Insufficient

There isn't enough reliable clinical evidence to rate this product's ingredients for its stated purpose.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: cognitive support.
  • We looked for evidence on: Age-related cognitive decline, Alzheimer disease, Cognitive function, Dementia, memory, brain function — and 1 related terms.
  • The closest evidence on file: Choline is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Age-related cognitive decline (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Choline is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Alzheimer disease, Cognitive function, Dementia.

The evidence for choline bitartrate is mixed. It's rated possibly ineffective for athletic performance.

For age-related cognitive decline, Alzheimer disease, bronchitis, hay fever, liver fat from total parenteral nutrition (TPN), and related conditions, we don't have enough reliable evidence to say whether it works or not. If you're considering it for one of these uses, talk it over with your doctor about whether it's the right fit for you.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Choline bitartrate is well tolerated at normal doses. The tolerable upper limit is 3.5 grams daily; doses beyond that can cause side effects including a fishy body odor (from how your gut breaks down choline), nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, sweating, and salivation.

At 9 grams daily or higher, gastrointestinal upset becomes more likely. During pregnancy, choline is important for your baby's development, but you should use only the dose your doctor or prenatal care provider advises.

While breastfeeding, your choline needs go up; if you want to supplement, do so under professional guidance. The data rates choline as likely safe in pregnancy and lactation when used appropriately.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Choline.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Minor.
  • For scale: 16 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

If you take atropine (a Minor interaction), verify with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this product, as choline may reduce its effectiveness. For any other medications, use the interaction checker below.

Choline Bitartrate 350 mg by Absorb Health: Common Questions

Does Choline Bitartrate 350 mg by Absorb Health interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Choline Bitartrate 350 mg has a known interaction with 16 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Choline Bitartrate 350 mg contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Is this safe to take if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
The data rates choline as likely safe during pregnancy and lactation. That said, choline is genuinely important during these times, and your needs are higher while breastfeeding. Use only the dose your doctor or prenatal provider recommends — don't guess at it.
Will this help my memory or slow down cognitive decline?
We don't have enough reliable evidence to say whether choline bitartrate works for age-related memory loss or Alzheimer disease. If that's what you're hoping it'll do, ask your doctor whether it's worth trying or if there's something with better evidence.
What side effects should I watch for?
At normal doses, choline is well tolerated. The main side effect people report is a fishy body odor. At higher doses (9 grams daily and above), nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach discomfort can occur. This product is 350 mg per capsule, so you'd have to take quite a few to hit those high doses.
Can I take this if I'm on atropine?
Choline may weaken atropine's effects in the brain. Check with your doctor or pharmacist before combining them — they can advise you on whether it's safe or whether you should space them out.
Does this contain fillers or other ingredients I should know about?
The active ingredient is choline bitartrate. The capsule is made from gelatin and silica (used to prevent clumping). There are no other additives.
