Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product is pure cassia cinnamon powder — a single active ingredient with no fillers or other additives listed. Cassia cinnamon is the dried inner bark of the Cinnamomum cassia tree, commonly used as a spice and traditionally in herbal medicine.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence we hold does not establish how well cassia cinnamon works for any of the conditions listed — amenorrhea (absent menstrual periods), angina (chest pain), common cold, diabetes, diarrhea, or high cholesterol and triglycerides (dyslipidemia). Each condition shows insufficient reliable evidence to rate its effectiveness.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Cassia cinnamon is generally well tolerated in typical food amounts. However, concentrated supplement doses — especially over a long period — may pose a concern because of coumarin, which can damage the liver over time.
In clinical trials, rashes have been reported rarely, and a few case reports describe contact dermatitis in people with a cinnamon allergy. One trial participant had a low blood sugar seizure while taking 1 gram daily, though it's unclear whether the cinnamon caused it.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you start this cinnamon powder, double-check with your pharmacist if you take drugs that stress the liver (hepatotoxic drugs) or diabetes medications. Theoretically, large or prolonged doses of cassia cinnamon could add to either effect.
Altogether, these interactions span 425 individual medications.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Banyan Botanicals Cinnamon Powder is a straightforward single-ingredient spice. If you use it in normal cooking amounts, it's unlikely to cause issues.
But if you take liver-stressing medications or diabetes drugs, or if you're pregnant, talk to your pharmacist first — especially about supplement-dose amounts.

HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Banyan Botanicals Cinnamon Powder contains one active ingredient — cassia cinnamon — which has documented interactions with two classes of medications.
The most serious concern is with drugs that stress the liver (hepatotoxic drugs). Theoretically, large doses of cassia cinnamon used long-term might add to that liver strain, since the spice contains coumarin, a compound that can harm the liver in animal studies.
At very high doses (50–7000 mg of coumarin daily), human cases have shown liver injury that reversed once the coumarin stopped.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Cassia cinnamon may also lower blood sugar levels (blood glucose). If you take diabetes medications, the cinnamon could potentially add to their effect, which means your blood sugar might drop further than intended.
Your doctor may need to adjust your diabetes medication doses.
Additionally, in the amounts typically used in food, cassia cinnamon is generally well tolerated. Still, if you take any medication that affects your liver function or your blood sugar, check your exact drugs with the search tool on this page before you start.

For each ingredient in Cinnamon Powder with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Cinnamon
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, cassia cinnamon may have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs.
Cassia cinnamon may lower blood glucose levels, and have additive effects in patients treated with antidiabetic agents. Dose adjustments to diabetes medications might be necessary.
Hepatotoxic Drugs
Theoretically, large doses of cassia cinnamon might cause additive effects when used with hepatotoxic drugs.
There is some concern that ingesting large amounts of cassia cinnamon for an extended duration might cause hepatotoxicity in some people. Cassia cinnamon contains coumarin, which can cause hepatotoxicity in animal models. In humans, very high doses of coumarin from 50-7000 mg/day can result in hepatotoxicity that resolves when coumarin use is discontinued. Lower amounts might also cause liver problems in sensitive people, such as those with liver disease or those taking potentially hepatotoxic agents.
