HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Clean Chlorella 200 mg Tablets by Health Ranger Select
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: chlorella, a freshwater algae. Chlorella is a concentrated source of nutrients including vitamin K, which is why it can interact with blood thinners.
The product has no other inactive ingredients listed.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Chlorella is possibly effective for pregnancy-related iron deficiency. For other uses — brain tumors, fatty liver disease, depression, and fatigue — the evidence in our data is insufficient to rate whether it works.
If you're considering chlorella for any of these reasons, talk with your doctor about what the current research actually shows for your situation.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Chlorella is generally well tolerated in the short term, but product quality and purity vary widely between brands, so sourcing matters. The most common side effects are mild: nausea, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal cramping, gas, fatigue, and skin sensitivity to sunlight.
These often ease up after the first couple of weeks. Rarely, serious allergic reactions including anaphylaxis have been reported, both in people taking it and in those handling chlorella powder during preparation.
Safety data for long-term use is limited. There isn't enough information on file about chlorella in pregnancy or breastfeeding — you'll want to talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice if you're considering it during either time.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check before using if you take warfarin or other blood thinners — chlorella's vitamin K content can reduce their effectiveness. Also double-check if you're on photosensitizing medications, which work on your skin's light sensitivity.
Chlorella can add to that effect.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Chlorella may be worth considering if you're pregnant and dealing with iron deficiency and your doctor approves. Be cautious if you take blood thinners or photosensitizing medications — check with us or your pharmacist first.
Quality varies widely between brands, so that's worth keeping in mind. Talk to your pharmacist before starting, especially if you're on any prescription medication.

Chlorella monograph & interactionsClean Chlorella 200 mg Tablets by Health Ranger Select Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Clean Chlorella 200 mg Tablets from Health Ranger Select contains chlorella, which interacts with two important medication types.
The most serious concern is with blood thinners like warfarin (Coumadin). Chlorella is high in vitamin K, which can work against warfarin and make it less effective at preventing clots — there's at least one case report of this happening.
If you take warfarin, you'll need to discuss chlorella with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The second interaction is with photosensitizing drugs (medications that make your skin more sensitive to sun damage). Chlorella itself can cause photosensitivity, and taking it alongside these drugs could add up to a bigger effect.
This is a moderate concern, but worth flagging if your medications include drugs in this category.
Altogether, these interactions span 336 individual medications. Use the medication checker below to search your exact prescriptions before you take this product.

Chlorella
Photosensitizing Drugs
Theoretically, chlorella might have additive effects with photosensitizing drugs.
Chlorella has been reported to cause photosensitization. In five case reports, patients who had ingested chlorella exhibited swelling followed by erythematopurpuric lesions on sun-exposed areas of the body. Theoretically, concomitant use with photosensitizing drugs may exacerbate effects.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Theoretically, chlorella might reduce the clinical effects of warfarin.
Chlorella contains significant amounts of vitamin K. There is at least one case report of warfarin therapy becoming sub-therapeutic after initiation of chlorella supplements.
