Full

Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: chlorella, a freshwater algae. Chlorella is a concentrated source of nutrients including vitamin K, which is why it can interact with blood thinners.

The product has no other inactive ingredients listed.

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed

This product doesn't appear to be marketed for a specific use, so we graded Chlorella's overall clinical evidence instead.

Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports Chlorella for:

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.
  • Since the label doesn't commit to one use, we graded the ingredient's overall clinical evidence instead.
  • On file: Pregnancy-related iron deficiency — rated "Possibly Effective" (Natural Medicines).

Chlorella is possibly effective for pregnancy-related iron deficiency. For other uses — brain tumors, fatty liver disease, depression, and fatigue — the evidence in our data is insufficient to rate whether it works.

If you're considering chlorella for any of these reasons, talk with your doctor about what the current research actually shows for your situation.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Chlorella is generally well tolerated in the short term, but product quality and purity vary widely between brands, so sourcing matters. The most common side effects are mild: nausea, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal cramping, gas, fatigue, and skin sensitivity to sunlight.

These often ease up after the first couple of weeks. Rarely, serious allergic reactions including anaphylaxis have been reported, both in people taking it and in those handling chlorella powder during preparation.

Safety data for long-term use is limited. There isn't enough information on file about chlorella in pregnancy or breastfeeding — you'll want to talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice if you're considering it during either time.

Moderate interaction found
Known Interaction Concern · database check
Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Chlorella.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs.
  • For scale: 337 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Check before using if you take warfarin or other blood thinners — chlorella's vitamin K content can reduce their effectiveness. Also double-check if you're on photosensitizing medications, which work on your skin's light sensitivity.

Chlorella can add to that effect.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Chlorella may be worth considering if you're pregnant and dealing with iron deficiency and your doctor approves. Be cautious if you take blood thinners or photosensitizing medications — check with us or your pharmacist first.

Quality varies widely between brands, so that's worth keeping in mind. Talk to your pharmacist before starting, especially if you're on any prescription medication.

Clean Chlorella 200 mg Tablets by Health Ranger Select: Common Questions

Does Clean Chlorella 200 mg Tablets by Health Ranger Select interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Clean Chlorella 200 mg Tablets has a known interaction with 337 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.

Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Can I take chlorella if I'm pregnant?
There isn't enough safety data on file about chlorella in pregnancy to say either way. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you — they know your full picture and can give you personalized advice.
Will chlorella actually work for fatigue?
