What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: Codonopsis, as a powder. In traditional herbal medicine, codonopsis root has been used to support respiratory health and digestion, though how well it works for these purposes isn't yet clearly established in modern research.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence we hold for codonopsis root doesn't support a clear rating for any of the uses it's traditionally claimed to address — asthma, cancer, respiratory tract infections, indigestion, or high cholesterol — so we'd call those insufficient reliable evidence to rate. That means the science isn't yet in one way or the other, not that it doesn't work.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Codonopsis is generally well tolerated in traditional food-like amounts, but high-quality safety data are limited. Very large doses (30 to 60 grams) may cause chest pain, heart rhythm problems, throat pain, or loss of voice.
Allergic reactions are possible — including rare but serious cases of anaphylaxis and hives — so stop and seek emergency care if you have trouble breathing or severe swelling after taking it. The safety data advises against codonopsis during pregnancy.
While breastfeeding, safety isn't known, so avoid it unless your own doctor has advised otherwise. If you're considering it during either time, talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized guidance.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take Codonopsis Root Powder, double-check with your pharmacist or doctor if you're on blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (like warfarin or aspirin), diabetes medications, or abiraterone. Codonopsis may affect how well these work or raise your risk of bleeding or low blood sugar.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Codonopsis root is generally well tolerated at typical amounts, but it does interact with blood thinners, diabetes drugs, and abiraterone, and rare allergic reactions have been reported. If you take any of those medications or have a history of allergies, check with your own doctor or pharmacist before starting.
It's best avoided in pregnancy and while breastfeeding unless your healthcare provider says otherwise.

Codonopsis, Powder monograph & interactionsCodonopsis Root Powder by TerraVita Premium Collection Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Codonopsis Root Powder by TerraVita Premium Collection interacts with several medication types, with the most serious concern involving blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs.
Codonopsis can theoretically increase bleeding risk when combined with anticoagulants (blood thinners like warfarin) or antiplatelet drugs (like aspirin). A small clinical study in people with heart disease showed that codonopsis liquor did inhibit platelet function, though it didn't affect certain clot-busting proteins.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Two other major concerns: codonopsis may reduce how well abiraterone (a prostate cancer medication) works by speeding up how your body clears it, and it might increase the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) when taken with diabetes medications. Laboratory and animal research suggest codonopsis itself can lower blood sugar.
Altogether, these interactions span 211 individual medications. Before you start codonopsis, run your exact medications through the search tool below to see whether any fall into these categories — or better yet, check with your own doctor or pharmacist.

For each ingredient in Codonopsis Root Powder with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Codonopsis, Powder
Abiraterone (Zytiga)
Theoretically, taking codonopsis root with abiraterone might reduce the levels and therapeutic effects of abiraterone.
Animal research in rats shows that intragastric administration of codonopsis root along with abiraterone every 2 days for 2 weeks seems to increase the clearance of abiraterone and reduce the overall exposure and time to maximum concentration. This interaction has not been reported in humans.
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, codonopsis liquor might increase the risk of bleeding when used with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs.
A small clinical study in adults with coronary heart disease shows that consuming Codonopsis pilosula liquor for 4 weeks inhibits platelet aggregation but does not affect tissue-type plasminogen activator (t-PA) or plasminogen activator inhibitor (PAI).
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, codonopsis might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Laboratory and animal research suggest that codonopsis has antidiabetic effects.
