Complete Enzyme Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by PureFormulas
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Complete Enzyme against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Partial disclosure
Complete Enzyme by PureFormulas contains eight ingredients, including three digestive enzymes — Protease, Lipase, and Amylase — plus Bromelain (a pineapple-derived enzyme) and Pepsin (a stomach enzyme). L-Lysine Hydrochloride is an amino acid, and the formula also includes Cellulase and Ox Bile powder.
The product also contains several inactive ingredients: Dicalcium Phosphate, Cellulose, Carboxymethylcellulose, Stearic Acid, Vegetable Stearate, Silica, and a coating.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence on these ingredients is mixed and mostly limited. L-Lysine is possibly effective for cold sores based on the data we hold, but evidence for child growth, pressure ulcers, and diabetic foot ulcers is insufficient to rate.
Lipase and Bromelain both have insufficient evidence for their purported uses — including digestive support and various inflammatory conditions — in the data we carry. Protease and Pepsin have no effectiveness ratings in our files.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
These ingredients are generally well tolerated at typical doses, but a few cautions apply. Lysine may cause stomach upset, diarrhea, or abdominal pain in some people, and long-term safety isn't well studied.
Bromelain is generally tolerated short-term but may cause diarrhea, gas, stomach upset, or headache; allergic reactions are rare but possible, especially if inhaled. Protease and Pepsin may trigger digestive upset or allergic reactions in sensitive individuals.
Lipase is generally well tolerated, though people with serious digestive conditions should use it only under medical guidance.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take Complete Enzyme, double-check if you're on blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (like warfarin, aspirin, or clopidogrel) — Bromelain may raise your bleeding risk. Also flag any tetracycline antibiotics you take, as Bromelain might increase their absorption.
If you use any 5-HT4 agonists for stomach motility, L-Lysine Hydrochloride may weaken their effect.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glancePartially disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product is an enzyme blend aimed at digestion support. If you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs, or tetracycline antibiotics, check with your pharmacist before starting — Bromelain can interact with those.
Pregnant or breastfeeding? Talk to your doctor first, as safety data is limited for most of these ingredients.

Complete Enzyme by PureFormulas Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Complete Enzyme by PureFormulas contains two ingredients with documented drug interactions.
L-Lysine Hydrochloride may reduce the effects of 5-HT4 agonists (drugs used for certain GI conditions), though the effect is Minor and based on animal research. The more notable concern is Bromelain, which has Moderate interaction potential with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs like warfarin, aspirin, and clopidogrel — it may increase bleeding risk.
There is also a Minor theoretical interaction between Bromelain and tetracycline antibiotics, where Bromelain might increase antibiotic absorption, though a human study showed no effect on blood levels.

Altogether, these interactions span 142 individual medications.
We could not check Amylase, Cellulase, or Ox Bile powder because we hold no data for those ingredients. Protease and Pepsin are checked and have no documented interactions.
Lipase is checked and has no documented interactions either. If you take any blood thinners, antiplatelet medications, or tetracycline antibiotics, run them through our medication checker below before you start this product.

For each ingredient in Complete Enzyme with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Bromelain
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Bromelain may have antiplatelet effects and may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
There is one case report of a patient experiencing minor bruising while taking bromelain with naproxen. Bromelain is thought to have antiplatelet activity. Whether this interaction is of concern with topical bromelain is unclear. Interference with coagulation of burn wounds has been reported in a patient receiving bromelain-based enzymatic debridement. However, observational research has found that topical bromelain debridement is not associated with increases or decreases in laboratory markers of coagulation when compared with surgical debridement.
Tetracycline Antibiotics
Theoretically, bromelain might increase levels of tetracycline antibiotics.
Laboratory research suggests that bromelain might increase the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics. However, a study in healthy adults reported no difference in tetracycline plasma levels when a 500 mg dose was taken with or without bromelain 80 mg.
L-Lysine
5-Ht4 Agonists
Theoretically, lysine may reduce the effects of 5-HT4 agonists.
Animal research suggests that L-lysine is a partial serotonin receptor 4 (5-HT4) antagonist and inhibits diarrhea induced by the 5-HT4 agonist, 5-hydroxytryptophane.
