HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Cordychi by Host Defense Mushrooms
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Cordychi contains two active ingredients: cordyceps and reishi mushroom. The product includes one inactive ingredient, pullulan, which is a binder.
These are whole-mushroom extracts, not isolated compounds — what you're getting is the traditional medicinal forms of both fungi.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence for what these mushrooms actually do is sparse. For cordyceps, athletic performance is rated possibly ineffective, and we don't have enough reliable evidence to rate it for sexual dysfunction, heart rhythm problems, asthma, lung cancer, or COPD.
For reishi, it's rated possibly ineffective for high cholesterol, and evidence is insufficient to rate it for altitude sickness, Alzheimer's disease, or athletic performance.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Both cordyceps and reishi are generally well tolerated over short periods, but long-term safety data is limited and product quality varies widely. The most common side effects from cordyceps are abdominal discomfort, constipation, and diarrhea — these are often mild and may improve if you take it with food.
Reishi can cause dizziness, dry mouth, itching, nausea, rash, stomach upset, sore throat, and runny nose. Rarely, reishi may cause insomnia or headache.
There's one case report of liver inflammation (hepatitis) possibly linked to a cordyceps product, though it's unclear whether cordyceps or a contaminant caused it. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, there isn't enough safety data for either cordyceps or reishi.
The safety data advises against use in both situations. If you're pregnant, nursing, or planning either, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, double-check your medications with the tool below if you take blood thinners (anticoagulants or antiplatelets), blood pressure medications, diabetes drugs, or immunosuppressants. Both cordyceps and reishi have Moderate-severity interactions with these drug types.
If you take testosterone replacement, cordyceps may theoretically add to its effects, though the clinical significance is unclear.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Cordychi is a two-ingredient mushroom blend with limited evidence for its claimed uses and several documented medication interactions. If you take blood thinners, blood pressure medications, diabetes drugs, immunosuppressants, or testosterone, check with your pharmacist first.

Cordychi by Host Defense Mushrooms Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Host Defense Mushrooms Cordychi contains cordyceps and reishi, two ingredients with documented interactions with medications.
The most serious concern is cordyceps and blood thinners (anticoagulants or antiplatelets like warfarin or aspirin) — cordyceps may theoretically increase bleeding risk, though this hasn't been reported in humans yet. Similarly, reishi at higher doses may have the same effect on blood thinners.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Reishi also interacts with blood pressure medications (antihypertensives) and diabetes drugs. With blood pressure meds, reishi may add to their effect and lower your pressure further.
With diabetes medications, animal research suggests reishi lowers blood sugar, though human studies show mixed or minimal results. Cordyceps additionally has a theoretical interaction with immunosuppressants (drugs that calm your immune system, like cyclosporine after a transplant) — cordyceps may stimulate immunity and potentially interfere with their work.
Cordyceps also theoretically has additive effects with testosterone replacement, though the clinical significance is unclear.
Altogether, these interactions span 495 individual medications. Use the search tool below to check your exact drugs before you start.

For each ingredient in Cordychi with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Reishi
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, high doses of reishi mushroom might increase the risk of bleeding.
A dose of 1.5 grams daily of reishi mushroom does not seem to decrease platelet aggregation, but a higher dose of 3 grams daily does.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, reishi mushroom might have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs.
Animal research suggests that reishi mushroom decreases blood sugar. However, in patients with type 2 diabetes, taking reishi mushroom does not reduce fasting glucose levels, and its effects on glycated hemoglobin are inconsistent.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, concurrent use of reishi mushroom with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Reishi mushroom has shown hypotensive activity in animal research. Clinical evidence suggests that reishi mushroom reduces blood pressure in some, but not all, patients with hypertension.
Cordyceps
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, cordyceps may increase the risk of bleeding when used with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs.
In vitro and animal research suggests that cordyceps extract inhibits platelet aggregation and function. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, concurrent use of cordyceps might interfere with immunosuppressive therapy.
Animal and in vitro research suggests that cordyceps stimulates the immune system. However, limited clinical research suggests that taking cordyceps may lower the necessary therapeutic dose of the immunosuppressant cyclosporine, which suggests that cordyceps may have an immunosuppressive effect.
Testosterone
Theoretically, concurrent use of cordyceps and testosterone might have additive effects.
Animal research suggests that cordyceps can increase testosterone levels. The clinical significance of this finding is unclear.
