What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: D-mannose, a simple sugar. The capsule also holds rice flour, vegetarian cellulose, silicon dioxide, and magnesium stearate as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
The evidence for D-mannose in urinary tract infections (UTIs) is sparse — the data we hold rates it as possibly ineffective for that purpose. It is rated likely effective for carbohydrate-deficient glycoprotein syndrome type 1b, which is a rare metabolic disorder.
If you're thinking about this for UTIs, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether the evidence supports trying it.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
D-mannose is generally well tolerated in the short term, though long-term safety data are limited — the caution here is that we don't have robust evidence for how safe it is with long-term use. There isn't enough reliable safety data in pregnancy, so it's best to avoid it unless your doctor advises otherwise.
Safety while breastfeeding is not well studied either, so caution is advised if you're nursing. The most common side effects are bloating, diarrhea, and nausea.
Diarrhea and loose stools are more likely at higher doses — a single dose above 200 mg/kg is especially risky for osmotic diarrhea (where the sugar draws water into the bowel).

The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. No medication interactions are currently documented, and safety information is well characterized.
D-mannose may help with a rare metabolic disorder if your doctor prescribes it for that. For UTIs, the evidence doesn't support it.
If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, there isn't enough safety data — talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using it.
