Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: DMAE L-Bitartrate (deanol), a compound thought to work on acetylcholine, a chemical messenger in the brain. The powder form means you'll mix or measure out your dose—there are no other active ingredients.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Deanol product and its label doesn't state a use — see Deanol's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence for deanol is limited. It's rated likely ineffective for Alzheimer's disease and tardive dyskinesia (a movement disorder that can result from certain psychiatric medications).

For aging skin, ADHD, and athletic performance, there isn't enough reliable evidence to say whether it works or doesn't. If you're considering it for one of these reasons, the data we hold doesn't support a clear benefit.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Deanol is generally well tolerated by some adults, but side effects can happen—the most common being abdominal cramps, pain, diarrhea, drowsiness, nausea, and vomiting. Other reported effects include headache, insomnia, confusion, and mood changes.

At doses above 1000 mg daily, mood effects (including depression and hypomania) have been reported, especially in people with psychiatric conditions; doses of 1500 mg daily have been linked to worsening schizophrenia symptoms in people with that diagnosis. There isn't enough safety data for pregnancy, and the data advises against use while breastfeeding.

If you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or nursing, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product.

Minor interactions only
Known Interaction Concern · database check
Minor only

Only Minor-severity interactions are documented for these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Deanol.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Minor.
  • For scale: 219 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before taking this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take anticholinergic drugs (such as overactive bladder or Parkinson's medications) or cholinergic drugs (such as certain Alzheimer's or myasthenia gravis medications). Deanol may theoretically affect how these work.

No interactions are documented in our data for any other medication types.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.

This powder is for people interested in deanol specifically, but the evidence it works for common uses (Alzheimer's, ADHD, athletic performance, skin aging) is either absent or suggests it won't help. It may theoretically affect how anticholinergic and cholinergic medications work, so check your exact drugs with your pharmacist or doctor before starting.

Side effects are possible, and people with psychiatric conditions should be especially cautious.

Pure Dmae L-Bitrartrate Powder by HARD RHINO: Common Questions

Does Pure Dmae L-Bitrartrate Powder by HARD RHINO interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Pure Dmae L-Bitrartrate Powder has a known interaction with 219 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Pure Dmae L-Bitrartrate Powder contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
What is DMAE L-Bitartrate, and what's it supposed to do?
DMAE L-Bitartrate, also called deanol, is thought to increase acetylcholine levels in the brain—a chemical involved in memory and focus. The research on whether it actually delivers benefits is limited or hasn't found much effect.
Will this help my memory or ADHD?
The evidence doesn't establish that deanol works for ADHD or aging-related memory concerns. For Alzheimer's disease specifically, it's rated likely ineffective. If you're hoping to address either of these, this isn't supported by the data we hold.
What side effects might I experience?
The most common are stomach cramps, diarrhea, drowsiness, nausea, and vomiting. Other reported effects include headache, insomnia, and mood changes. If you have a psychiatric condition, higher doses (over 1000 mg daily) carry a higher risk of mood changes or worsening symptoms.
Is it safe to take if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
There isn't enough safety data for pregnancy to know either way, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice. The data advises against use while breastfeeding.
How should I dose this powder?
Dosing instructions aren't covered in the product facts we have on file. Check the label on your container or speak with your pharmacist about proper dosing for your needs.
Does this have any fillers or other inactive ingredients?
This is listed as pure DMAE L-Bitartrate powder, so fillers and binders aren't documented. Check the label to confirm what's in your specific container.
