ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Acetaminophen, Caffeine, Chlorpheniramine, Hydrocodone, Phenylephrine
Acetaminophen, Caffeine, Chlorpheniramine, Hydrocodone, Phenylephrine falls under ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS — the group Deanol interacts with.
Deanol is thought to increase acetylcholine levels.
Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..
This combination product contains chlorpheniramine, which is an antihistamine with anticholinergic activity, meaning it works partly by blocking the brain chemical acetylcholine. Deanol is thought to do the opposite and gently nudge acetylcholine levels up. On paper, that could slightly work against the chlorpheniramine piece of this medicine, so in theory you might notice a bit less relief from things like a runny nose or sneezing.
I want to be honest though: this is purely a theoretical concern based on how these compounds behave, not something documented in real patients, and it's rated as minor and unlikely. The acetaminophen, caffeine, hydrocodone, and phenylephrine parts aren't involved. Still, if you take deanol regularly, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor.
