Here's the situation with succinylcholine, which is the short-acting muscle relaxant given during anesthesia to relax your muscles for procedures like intubation. It works at the same nerve-muscle junctions that use acetylcholine. The thinking behind this interaction is that deanol (DMAE) might nudge acetylcholine levels up, so in theory it could add to or slightly extend succinylcholine's muscle-relaxing effects, like more profound muscle paralysis.

Honestly, this is a very theoretical concern. It's rated minor and unlikely, and it's based on how these compounds work on paper, not on real cases. Still, succinylcholine is only used in a controlled hospital setting, so the safest move is simply to tell your anesthesia team and pharmacist about any supplements you take, including DMAE.
