Here's the idea behind this pairing. Scopolamine works by blocking acetylcholine, the brain chemical that drives things like nausea signals from motion. Deanol (DMAE) is marketed as something that could nudge acetylcholine levels up. So in theory, the two could work against each other, and you might get a little less of the relief scopolamine is supposed to give, like more breakthrough nausea or queasiness on a trip or after surgery.

I'll be honest with you though: this is a theoretical, minor concern based on how these compounds behave on paper, not on real patient reports, and it's considered unlikely to cause trouble. Scopolamine is not a prodrug, so it doesn't need activating. If you're using both, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

What Is Scopolamine Transdermal Patch Used For?

Brand names: Scopace, Scopolamine Injection, Transderm Scop

Scopolamine Transdermal System (also sold as Transderm Scōp) is approved for adults to prevent nausea and vomiting caused by motion sickness. You apply it before travel to help stop queasiness before it starts.

It is also used to prevent post-operative nausea and vomiting (PONV) — the nausea and vomiting that can follow surgery, anesthesia, or opioid pain medicines. Transderm Scōp is applied the evening before surgery (for surgeries other than cesarean section) and removed 24 hours after the procedure.
