Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CHOLINERGIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Rivastigmine
Rivastigmine falls under CHOLINERGIC DRUGS — the group Deanol interacts with.
Deanol is thought to increase acetylcholine levels.
Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..
Here's the idea behind this pairing. Rivastigmine works by slowing the breakdown of acetylcholine in the brain, which leaves more of it around to help with memory and thinking. Deanol is marketed on the theory that it can raise acetylcholine too. So in theory, stacking the two could push acetylcholine effects in the same direction and make rivastigmine's side effects a bit stronger.
In practice, this is a theoretical, low-likelihood concern based on how the two work, not on real-world reports. The side effects to watch for would be the usual cholinergic ones from rivastigmine: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, dizziness, or a slow heartbeat. If you're considering deanol, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor first rather than starting it on your own.
