Here's the idea in simple terms: amitriptyline has some anticholinergic activity, meaning part of how it works (and part of why it causes side effects like dry mouth, constipation, and drowsiness) is by dialing down a brain and body chemical called acetylcholine. Deanol is thought to push acetylcholine the other way, nudging levels up. So on paper, deanol could slightly work against amitriptyline's anticholinergic effects.

The honest truth is this is theoretical, based on how the two are believed to act, not on real-world reports. It's rated minor and unlikely. I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but since amitriptyline is a mood medication you don't want to undermine, just run it past your pharmacist or doctor before adding deanol.
