ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Acetaminophen, Pamabrom, Pyrilamine
Acetaminophen, Pamabrom, Pyrilamine falls under ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS — the group Deanol interacts with.
Deanol is thought to increase acetylcholine levels.
Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..
The piece in your Midol or Pamprin that matters here is pyrilamine, an antihistamine that has mild anticholinergic (drying) effects. Deanol is thought to nudge up acetylcholine, the very chemical that pyrilamine quietly blocks. So in theory, deanol could slightly push back against pyrilamine and make it a touch less effective at things like easing that watery, runny feeling or its calming, drowsy effect.
Honestly, this is a theoretical concern based on how these compounds work, not something well documented in real people, and it is rated minor and unlikely. The acetaminophen and pamabrom (a mild diuretic) parts are not involved. I would not lose sleep over it, but if you take deanol regularly, mention it to your pharmacist so they can keep an eye on things.
