Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: D-mannose, a simple sugar (carbohydrate) that your body doesn't metabolize the way it does glucose. The capsule also holds rice flour, cellulose, and silica as inactive ingredients — those are fillers and binders that help hold the tablet together.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
D-mannose is likely effective for carbohydrate-deficient glycoprotein syndrome type 1b, a rare genetic condition. For urinary tract infections (UTIs), however, the evidence suggests it's possibly ineffective — so this product isn't a proven option if that's what you're after.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
D-mannose is generally well tolerated over the short term, but we don't have high-quality long-term safety data, so it's best not to take it unless your doctor advises otherwise. The most common side effects are bloating, diarrhea, and nausea.
Loose stools and abdominal bloating show up most often, especially at higher doses — doses over 200 mg per kilogram of body weight make osmotic diarrhea (the kind caused by unabsorbed sugars) more likely. Safety while breastfeeding isn't well studied, so caution is advised if you're nursing.
Pregnancy safety data aren't on file for this ingredient, so there isn't enough information to know either way. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you if you're pregnant or planning to be.
Meds to double-check
No known interactions
No interactions are documented in our data for D-mannose. That doesn't mean they can't happen — it just means we have no monograph entries showing them.
Run your medications through the search tool here, and if you're on anything regularly, check with your own doctor or pharmacist before you start.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. No medication interactions are currently documented, and safety information is well characterized.
D-mannose may be worth considering if you have carbohydrate-deficient glycoprotein syndrome type 1b and your doctor recommends it — that's where the evidence is strongest. If you're taking it for UTIs, the data don't support that use.
Most people tolerate it okay short-term, but bloating and diarrhea are common, and long-term safety isn't well established. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting, especially if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a condition that makes diarrhea a concern.
