HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Enzyme Complete DPP-IV with Isogest by Kirkman
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This product contains 16 ingredients, including 11 digestive enzymes that work to break down different types of food. Amylase, Diastase, and Alpha-Galactosidase help digest carbohydrates; Lipase breaks down fats; Papain, Bromelain, Acid Protease, Protease 3, Protease 6, and Peptidase work on proteins; Cellulase breaks down plant fiber; Invertase handles certain sugars; and Lactase helps people digest lactose in dairy.
The product also includes Isogest (an ingredient blend we cannot fully evaluate) and Kirkman's proprietary enzyme blend. The inactive ingredients are hypromellose, water, microcrystalline cellulose, and maltodextrin—all common capsule fillers and binders.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
The effectiveness evidence in our data is limited. Lactase is rated effective for lactose intolerance.
For the other enzymes—Papain, Bromelain, Lipase, Acid Protease, Protease 3, Protease 6, Phytase, and Cellulase—the evidence we hold does not establish effectiveness for any condition; either no ratings exist or all ratings are insufficient reliable evidence. We do not hold effectiveness data for Amylase, Peptidase, Alpha-Galactosidase, Xylanase, Diastase, Invertase, Isogest, or the proprietary blend.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Most of these enzymes are generally well tolerated when taken by mouth at appropriate doses. Papain may irritate your digestive tract and can cause allergic reactions in sensitive people—symptoms include itchy watery eyes, runny nose, sneezing, abdominal cramps, sweating, and diarrhea.
Bromelain's most common side effects are diarrhea, flatulence, stomach upset, and headache; allergic reactions are possible. The proteolytic enzymes may cause digestive upset or allergic reactions.
A small number of occupational workers exposed to airborne enzyme dust (papain, bromelain, phytase, or proteases) have developed respiratory allergies including asthma or rhinitis. Concentrated papain and unripe papaya products should be avoided in pregnancy due to safety concerns; safety data for bromelain and the proteolytic enzymes in pregnancy are insufficient, so those ingredients are best avoided unless your doctor prescribes them.
For breastfeeding, there isn't enough reliable safety information for papain, bromelain, the proteolytic enzymes, or phytase, so medical guidance is advised; Lactase is likely safe.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take warfarin (Coumadin) or any blood thinner, check with your pharmacist before using this product—papain may increase its effects. If you take any antiplatelet or anticoagulant drug (aspirin, clopidogrel, dabigatran, rivaroxaban, and others), bromelain may raise your bleeding risk.
If you take tetracycline antibiotics, bromelain may theoretically increase their blood levels, though human evidence is mixed. Check the search tool on this page with your full medication list.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This enzyme product is designed to support digestion of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. If you take a blood thinner like warfarin or an antiplatelet drug, you need to check with your pharmacist first—papain and bromelain both carry interaction risks.
If you have a known allergy to papaya, pineapple, or other enzymes, use caution. Talk to your pharmacist before starting, especially if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or take any medications.

Enzyme Complete DPP-IV with Isogest by Kirkman Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Enzyme Complete DPP-IV with Isogest by Kirkman contains several digestive enzymes, and two of them have documented interactions with medications.
Papain may increase the effects and side effects of warfarin (a blood thinner), with one case report describing a patient whose blood-thinning level (INR) spiked to 7.4 after taking a papain-containing supplement. Bromelain, another enzyme in this product, may raise the risk of bleeding if you're already on blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (aspirin, clopidogrel, and others); it has antiplatelet activity of its own.
Bromelain may also theoretically increase levels of tetracycline antibiotics, though a human study found no meaningful difference in blood levels.

Altogetherther, these interactions span 141 individual medications. Several other ingredients in this formula—Amylase, Cellulase, Peptidase, Alpha-Galactosidase, Xylanase, Diastase, Invertase, and Isogest—we could not check because we hold no interaction data for them.
Lipase, Lactase, and the proteolytic enzymes (Acid Protease, Protease 3, and Protease 6) have no interactions documented in our data, though that is not a guarantee none exist. Before you start this product, check your exact medications with the search tool on this page—especially if you take a blood thinner or antiplatelet drug.
