Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: glutathione, an antioxidant your body makes naturally. Glutathione is involved in protecting cells and supporting liver function.

The capsule also holds several inactive ingredients — hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, silicon dioxide, and water — that make up the capsule shell and help deliver the dose.

Not established
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see Glutathione's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: antioxidant support in living cells.
  • We looked for evidence on: Aging, Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), Cirrhosis, Cystic fibrosis, Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), Parkinson disease — and 4 related terms.
  • The closest evidence on file: Glutathione is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Glutathione is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Cirrhosis, Cystic fibrosis, Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), Parkinson disease, and more.

The evidence for glutathione is mixed depending on what you're taking it for. It's possibly effective for reducing nerve damage caused by the chemotherapy drug cisplatin.

For nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, Alzheimer disease, athletic performance, and cataracts, the evidence isn't established well enough to rate it one way or the other. If you're considering this for a specific health goal, ask your doctor or pharmacist what the current research suggests for your situation.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Oral glutathione appears generally well tolerated in the short term, but we don't have clear data on long-term safety. The safety notes specifically mention that inhaled (nebulized) forms can cause airway narrowing and shortness of breath in people with asthma — but this product is a capsule, so that's not your concern here.

During pregnancy, there isn't enough reliable safety information, so it's best avoided unless your doctor advises otherwise. The same caution applies to breastfeeding — the data just isn't there to say it's safe, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using it.
