Gotu Kola Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Gotu Kola against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

What’s inside
Full disclosure
This liquid supplement contains one active ingredient: organic Gotu Kola. The product also includes grain alcohol and deionized water as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Gotu Kola is possibly effective for venous insufficiency (poor blood flow in veins) and burns. For radiation dermatitis, cognitive function, and Alzheimer disease, the evidence either suggests it probably doesn't work or isn't strong enough to say either way.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Gotu Kola is generally well tolerated when taken by mouth short-term, though quality evidence is limited. The most common side effects are stomach irritation and nausea.
Rarely, liver damage has been reported, though it's unclear whether gotu kola was the cause in those cases. One clinical trial of 120 mg daily for 6 months showed no liver problems.
The safety data advises against use during pregnancy and breastfeeding — there isn't enough information to know either way, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice before taking it if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product if you use CNS depressants (Moderate severity) — sedatives, sleeping pills, anxiety medications — because gotu kola may increase drowsiness. Also flag any medications that stress the liver (Moderate severity), as gotu kola may add to that burden.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Gotu Kola may be worth considering if you're looking at options for venous insufficiency or burn healing, though the evidence is limited. If you take sedatives or medications that affect the liver, you'll need to check with your doctor or pharmacist first — interactions are possible.

Gotu Kola by Thymely Solutions Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Gotu Kola by Thymely Solutions can interact with medications.
Its one active ingredient has documented interactions with two major drug categories.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The most serious concern is with CNS depressants (sedatives, sleeping pills, anxiety medications). Gotu kola may increase how drowsy or sedated you become on these drugs.
Lab research suggests it may work through GABA receptors, which brain depressants also use.
Gotu kola also carries a Moderate interaction risk with drugs that stress the liver (hepatotoxic drugs). Taking them together might add up to extra liver strain.
While there are four case reports of liver damage linked to gotu kola, we don't know for certain whether gotu kola caused it or if contaminants did — those products weren't tested in a lab. One clinical trial of 120 mg daily for 6 months didn't show liver problems, but more evidence is needed.
Altogether, these interactions span 580 individual medications. Before you start, check your exact medications with the tool on this page.
