Alpha-GPC is possibly effective for Alzheimer disease based on available evidence. For cognitive function, vascular dementia, stroke, and brain tumors, the evidence isn't reliable enough to rate how well it works.

Alpha-GPC is generally well tolerated in studies, but long-term safety hasn't been fully established. Rare side effects from oral use include dizziness, headache, insomnia, excitement, diarrhea, heartburn, nausea, and vomiting.
Rarely, oral alpha-GPC has been associated with stroke, especially with use lasting 2 months or longer compared with non-users or shorter-term users.
