HelloPharmacist Scorecard of L-Tyrosine 500 mg by Seeking Health
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: L-tyrosine, an amino acid at 500 mg per capsule. L-tyrosine is a building block your body uses to make neurotransmitters (brain chemicals) and thyroid hormones.
The capsule also holds several inactive ingredients — vegetarian capsule material, L-leucine, cellulose, and silicon dioxide — which are excipients that help deliver the active ingredient.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
L-tyrosine is effective for phenylketonuria (PKU), a genetic condition requiring strict tyrosine management. For cognitive function and memory, the evidence suggests it's possibly effective — meaning there's some promising data, but we need more research to be sure.
For athletic performance, current evidence suggests it's possibly ineffective. The data we hold is insufficient to rate it for alcohol use disorder or dementia.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L-tyrosine is generally well tolerated in healthy adults, though the safety data available isn't extensive. The most common side effects reported with oral use are fatigue, headache, heartburn, and nausea.
Higher doses (150 mg per kilogram of body weight) can trigger headache and fatigue; these effects tend to ease when you lower the dose. There isn't enough safety data for regular supplemental use without medical guidance — talk to your doctor or pharmacist before you start.
If you're breastfeeding, the safety data is also limited, so check with your healthcare provider first.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take L-tyrosine, double-check it with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on levodopa (a Parkinson's medication) — spacing doses at least 2 hours apart may help. Also flag it if you take any thyroid hormone medication, since tyrosine could have additive effects.
No interactions are documented for other common medication types in our data, but that's not a guarantee none exist.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with strong clinical evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This supplement may help with cognitive function or memory, though the evidence is still being built. If you take levodopa for Parkinson's disease or a thyroid medication, you'll want to check with your own doctor or pharmacist before starting — timing matters for the levodopa interaction.
For anyone else, it's generally well tolerated, but the safety profile isn't as robust as for some other supplements, so a quick conversation with your healthcare provider is a good idea.

L-Tyrosine 500 mg by Seeking Health Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
L-Tyrosine 500 mg by Seeking Health has documented interactions with two medication types: levodopa (used for Parkinson's disease) and thyroid hormones.
The most serious concern is with levodopa — tyrosine and levodopa both use the same absorption pathway in your small intestine, so tyrosine can reduce how much levodopa your body takes in and lower its effectiveness. Your doctor may recommend spacing the two at least 2 hours apart.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Thyroid hormone medications (such as levothyroxine) are also a consideration. Since tyrosine is a building block your body uses to make thyroid hormones, taking it alongside thyroid medication might add to the hormone level in your system.
Altogether, these interactions span 21 individual medications.
If you take either levodopa or a thyroid medication, run your specific drugs through the checker below before you start this supplement. Your own doctor or pharmacist can help you figure out the timing and whether it's right for you.

Levodopa
Theoretically, tyrosine might decrease the effectiveness of levodopa.
Tyrosine and levodopa compete for absorption in the proximal duodenum by the large neutral amino acid (LNAA) transport system. Advise patients to separate doses of tyrosine and levodopa by at least 2 hours.
Thyroid Hormone
Theoretically, tyrosine might have additive effects with thyroid hormone medications.
Tyrosine is a precursor to thyroxine and might increase levels of thyroid hormones.
