L-Tyrosine Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by SuperiorLabs
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking L-Tyrosine against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of L-Tyrosine by SuperiorLabs
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: L-Tyrosine, an amino acid your body uses naturally to make dopamine, norepinephrine, and thyroid hormones. The capsule also holds inactive ingredients—cellulose and rice husk—that serve as binders and fillers.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
L-Tyrosine is effective for phenylketonuria (PKU), a rare inherited condition. It's possibly effective for cognitive function and memory, though the evidence is modest.
For athletic performance, the research suggests it's probably not effective. There isn't enough reliable evidence to rate it for alcohol use disorder or dementia.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L-Tyrosine is generally well tolerated in healthy adults, but you should talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it regularly. The most common side effects in trials were fatigue, headache, heartburn, and nausea.
Higher doses can worsen headache and fatigue. There isn't enough safety data during pregnancy or breastfeeding, so talk with your doctor if you're pregnant or nursing before starting it.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take this, double-check if you're on levodopa (Parkinson's medication)—space it 2 hours away from L-Tyrosine. Also check any thyroid hormone medications you take.
If you're unsure about your drugs, use the interaction checker below.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
L-Tyrosine might help with focus and memory if the evidence applies to your situation. If you take levodopa or thyroid medication, check with your pharmacist first—spacing doses matters.
For pregnancy or breastfeeding, get personalized advice from your doctor before you start.

L-Tyrosine
Levodopa
Theoretically, tyrosine might decrease the effectiveness of levodopa.
Tyrosine and levodopa compete for absorption in the proximal duodenum by the large neutral amino acid (LNAA) transport system. Advise patients to separate doses of tyrosine and levodopa by at least 2 hours.
Thyroid Hormone
Theoretically, tyrosine might have additive effects with thyroid hormone medications.
Tyrosine is a precursor to thyroxine and might increase levels of thyroid hormones.
