Lavender Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Lavender against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: lavender. The liquid form also includes lavender oil as an inactive ingredient.
Lavender has been traditionally used for calming and sleep support, and the research we hold covers its use for several purposes, from menstrual discomfort to anxiety and fatigue.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence for lavender is mixed. It's possibly effective for dysmenorrhea (period pain).
For cancer-related pain, the data suggests it's possibly ineffective. For alopecia areata (patchy hair loss), pre-procedural anxiety, and cancer-related fatigue, there isn't enough reliable evidence to say whether it works.
Your own experience may differ from what the research shows, and it's worth discussing with your doctor what you're hoping it will do for you.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Orally, lavender is generally well tolerated in food amounts and appears well tolerated in larger doses too. The most common side effects are mild: breath odor, constipation, diarrhea, indigestion, heartburn, headache, and nausea.
Topically, it's usually well tolerated, though some people develop allergic contact dermatitis (an itchy rash) from lavender oil. Rare cases of gynecomastia (breast tissue growth) have been reported in young boys using lavender oil.
Because safety data is limited, don't take medicinal amounts without your doctor's approval. Essential oil is toxic if swallowed, so keep it out of reach.
Not enough data exists on lavender in pregnancy and lactation—talk with your healthcare provider if you're pregnant or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check before combining with CNS depressants—sedatives, sleep aids, benzodiazepines, opioid pain relievers, and muscle relaxers. Lavender may strengthen both the benefit and the drowsiness of these drugs.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Lavender may help with period pain, though the evidence for other uses is unclear or lacking. It's gentle for most people but can cause mild stomach upset or headache.
If you're on sleep aids, sedatives, or other CNS depressants, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting—lavender may add to their effects. Use only under guidance from your own healthcare provider, especially if you're pregnant, nursing, or managing other conditions.

Lavender by Zongle Therapeutics Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Zongle Therapeutics Lavender interacts with CNS depressants—medications that slow your central nervous system, like sedatives, sleep aids, and certain pain relievers.
Lavender may potentiate (strengthen) both the therapeutic effects and the side effects of these drugs. Laboratory research shows lavender has sedative properties, though clinical studies of oral lavender at standard doses haven't reported this as a significant problem in practice.

Altogether, these interactions span 248 individual medications.
If you take any CNS depressants—prescription sleep aids, benzodiazepines, opioids, or muscle relaxers—check with your doctor or pharmacist before adding this product. The concern isn't that lavender will dangerously overdose you, but that it may add to the drowsiness or sedation you're already managing.

Lavender
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, lavender might potentiate the therapeutic effects and adverse effects of CNS depressants.
Laboratory research suggests that lavender has sedative effects. However, clinical studies in patients taking oral lavender oil (Silexan) 160 mg for 10 weeks or taking lavender flower powder 1 gram daily for 2 months have not reported side effects of drowsiness, sedation, or sleepiness. There is still some concern that higher doses or different preparations of lavender might have additive effects with CNS depressant medications.
