Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product is a single-ingredient powder: lemon fruit extract in a 4:1 concentration, meaning the liquid extract has been condensed down to powder form. There are no inactive ingredients listed.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Lemon product and its label doesn't state a use — see Lemon's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence for lemon extract isn't established in the data we hold. We have no reliable ratings for hay fever, anxiety, respiratory tract infections, high blood pressure, or kidney stones—meaning either the research is too limited or mixed to draw a firm conclusion, or it hasn't been formally assessed.

If you're considering this product for one of those reasons, talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist about what the current evidence actually supports.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Lemon as food or drink is generally well tolerated in normal amounts. However, this is a concentrated extract powder, not the small amount of lemon you'd get in food.

The safety notes advise caution with concentrated supplements unless your doctor approves, and larger amounts haven't been thoroughly studied. In clinical trials with fresh lemon juice taken as a supplement, gastrointestinal side effects showed up in a meaningful number of participants: about 37% reported some gut disturbance (mostly heartburn and epigastralgia—upper abdominal pain—at 21% and 8%, respectively), compared to only 8% in the placebo group.

If you have a sensitive stomach or reflux, this is worth knowing.

Only Minor-severity interactions are documented for these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Lemon.

  • For scale: 1 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

If you take itraconazole (Sporanox), an antifungal medication, check with your doctor or pharmacist before using this lemon extract product—it may raise itraconazole levels and increase its effects. For all other medications, no interactions are documented in our data.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.

This single-ingredient lemon extract powder has insufficient evidence to support its use for hay fever, anxiety, respiratory infections, high blood pressure, or kidney stones. Its main documented interaction is with the antifungal itraconazole, which you should discuss with your doctor or pharmacist if you take that drug.

Most people tolerate lemon well in food, but concentrated supplements can trigger heartburn and stomach discomfort in some. Talk with your own doctor or pharmacist before starting it.

Itraconazole (Sporanox)

Theoretically, taking itraconazole capsules or tablets with a beverage containing lemon might increase the levels and clinical effects of itraconazole.
In one case report, dissolving itraconazole tablets in a small amount of specific beverages containing lemon prior to administration increased the level of itraconazole in a lung transplant patient. In this case, the increased bioavailability was desirable and was likely due to improved tablet dissolution in the acidic beverage.

Lemon Fruit 4:1 Extract Powder by TerraVita Premium Collection: Common Questions

Does Lemon Fruit 4:1 Extract Powder by TerraVita Premium Collection interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Lemon Fruit 4:1 Extract Powder has a known interaction with 1 medication. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Lemon Fruit 4:1 Extract Powder contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Can I use this if I take itraconazole (Sporanox)?
Not without checking with your doctor or pharmacist first. Lemon extract can raise itraconazole levels and boost its effects. Your prescriber can tell you whether it's safe for you or suggest timing adjustments.
Will this help with allergies, anxiety, or respiratory infections?
The evidence isn't reliable enough to rate it for those conditions. We don't have solid data showing it works for them. Your doctor or pharmacist can discuss whether it's worth trying or whether other options are better supported.
What are the side effects?
In food amounts, lemon is well tolerated. But when taken as a larger supplement dose in clinical trials, about 37% of people reported gastrointestinal upset—mostly heartburn and upper abdominal pain. If you have reflux or a sensitive stomach, this is a real risk.
Is this safe in pregnancy or while breastfeeding?
The data on file doesn't cover pregnancy or lactation for this extract. Lemon in food is fine, but medicinal amounts haven't been well studied in pregnancy or nursing. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice.
What exactly is in this powder?
It's pure lemon fruit extract in a 4:1 concentration—meaning the liquid has been condensed to powder form. There are no inactive fillers or other ingredients added.
