Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: lemon peel extract in a 4:1 concentrated powder form. Lemon peel is the outer rind of the lemon fruit, processed to concentrate its compounds.

The product contains no inactive ingredients or fillers on file.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Lemon product and its label doesn't state a use — see Lemon's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence we hold on lemon peel extract doesn't establish its effectiveness for any condition. Studies don't support reliable benefits for hay fever (allergic rhinitis), anxiety, respiratory tract infections, high blood pressure (hypertension), or kidney stones, though the data rated these uses as having insufficient evidence rather than proven ineffective.

If you're considering this product for a specific health reason, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about what the current science actually supports.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Lemon as a food or beverage is safe for most people in normal amounts. However, concentrated supplements and essential oils haven't been well studied in medicinal doses, so it's wise to check with your doctor before using them.

In food quantities, lemon is well tolerated. Larger doses carry risks: in one trial, fresh lemon juice taken as 60 mL twice daily caused gastrointestinal upset in 37% of participants, compared with 8% on placebo—including heartburn in 21% and stomach pain (epigastralgia) in 8%.

The product facts don't include pregnancy or breastfeeding safety data for this extract, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're pregnant, planning to be, or nursing.

If you take itraconazole (Sporanox) for a fungal infection, check with your doctor or pharmacist before using this lemon peel extract—it may raise itraconazole levels in your body.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.

This powder is a concentrated form of lemon peel, and we don't have evidence it's effective for common uses like allergies or anxiety. It interacts with itraconazole (an antifungal), and larger doses may cause heartburn or stomach upset.

If you take itraconazole or other medications, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting. It's reasonable as a food flavoring in normal amounts, but consider whether you need it for any specific reason first.

Itraconazole (Sporanox)

Theoretically, taking itraconazole capsules or tablets with a beverage containing lemon might increase the levels and clinical effects of itraconazole.
In one case report, dissolving itraconazole tablets in a small amount of specific beverages containing lemon prior to administration increased the level of itraconazole in a lung transplant patient. In this case, the increased bioavailability was desirable and was likely due to improved tablet dissolution in the acidic beverage.

Lemon Peel 4:1 Extract Powder by TerraVita Premium Collection: Common Questions

Does Lemon Peel 4:1 Extract Powder by TerraVita Premium Collection interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Lemon Peel 4:1 Extract Powder has a known interaction with 1 medication. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Lemon Peel 4:1 Extract Powder contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Will this give me heartburn?
It may. In one trial, people drinking fresh lemon juice at higher doses experienced heartburn and stomach pain more often than those on placebo. This product is a concentrated extract, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's a good fit if you have a sensitive stomach or acid reflux.
Is lemon peel extract safe for my stomach?
Lemon in food is fine for most people. Larger medicinal amounts, like those in concentrated supplements, haven't been well studied, and some people report gastrointestinal upset. If you have stomach issues, check with your doctor first.
Does this help with hay fever or colds?
The evidence we have doesn't show that lemon peel extract reliably helps with allergies, respiratory infections, or other conditions. If you're looking for relief from hay fever or a cold, ask your doctor or pharmacist what's actually proven.
Can I take this if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
The product facts don't include pregnancy or breastfeeding safety data for this concentrated extract, so we can't tell you either way. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice.
What's the difference between this extract and regular lemon?
This is a 4:1 concentrate—meaning the lemon peel has been processed to make it stronger than the whole fruit. Because it's more potent, the safety data for regular food amounts may not apply. Check with your doctor about medicinal use.
