MCT Oil Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by Brainz
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking MCT Oil against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

What’s inside
Full disclosure
Brainz MCT Oil is a 2-ingredient softgel that delivers caprylic acid and capric acid — both medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), fatty acids your body can use quickly for energy. The capsule shell and fill are made from gelatin, glycerin, and purified water.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for caprylic acid isn't established in our data. The facts list epilepsy and essential tremor as studied uses, but rate both as having insufficient reliable evidence to determine whether it actually works.
If you're considering this product for a specific condition, ask your doctor or pharmacist what the current research shows.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Caprylic acid is generally recognized as safe in food, but supplement doses haven't been studied as thoroughly as food amounts. The most common side effects from oral use are mild abdominal discomfort and change in taste; rarely, people have reported dizziness, headache, or fatigue.
Caprylic acid occurs naturally in breast milk, but we don't have safety data on concentrated supplement doses during pregnancy or breastfeeding — talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you're pregnant or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take Brainz MCT Oil, double-check it with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on blood thinners like warfarin, blood pressure medications, or NSAIDs such as ibuprofen or naproxen — caprylic acid may affect how your body handles these drugs. These are the main medication types we have interaction data for with this product.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
MCT Oil might be worth considering if you're looking for a quick energy source, but the evidence for its other claimed benefits isn't solid in our data. If you take blood thinners, blood pressure medications, or NSAIDs, you'll want to check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting — the interactions are theoretical but significant enough to verify.
Either way, discuss it with your own healthcare provider to make sure it fits your situation.

MCT Oil by Brainz Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Brainz MCT Oil contains caprylic acid, which has documented interactions with three medication types.
The most serious concern is with blood thinners like warfarin (Coumadin) — caprylic acid may increase how much warfarin stays in your bloodstream, which could raise your bleeding risk. This is based on lab research showing caprylic acid might displace warfarin from its binding sites; it hasn't been seen in humans yet, but the potential is real enough to warrant caution.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Caprylic acid also interacts with blood pressure medications (antihypertensives) and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen and naproxen. With blood pressure drugs, there's a theoretical risk of blood pressure dropping too low.
With NSAIDs, caprylic acid might raise their blood levels in your system — again, observed in lab work but not yet reported in people. Both are rated Moderate severity.
We couldn't check capric acid, the second active ingredient in this product — no interaction data is on file for it. Altogether, these interactions span 262 individual medications.
Before you start, run your exact medications through the checker on this page, and if you take any blood thinners, blood pressure drugs, or NSAIDs regularly, clear it with your doctor or pharmacist first.

Caprylic Acid
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, caprylic acid might increase the risk of hypotension when used with antihypertensive drugs.
Animal research suggests that caprylic acid might have positive inotropic effects, resulting in reduced arterial pressure and vascular resistance and increased cardiac output.
Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (Nsaids)
Theoretically, caprylic acid might increase plasma concentrations of NSAIDs.
In vitro research suggests that caprylic acid might displace NSAIDs from binding sites on albumin. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Theoretically, caprylic acid might increase plasma concentrations of warfarin.
In vitro research suggests that high doses of caprylic acid might displace warfarin from albumin binding sites. This effect has not been reported in humans.
